Argentina National Team

[BeijingGunner]

Does Riquelme's mother live in Argentina? If so, does that mean Juan Roman will be going back there to play, or by "take care", does he mean he will not expose her to all the media pressure surrounding the family of an international player?

This could mean the end of Villarreal, as well a big blow for Argentina

[YeahBee]

Oh man this wil really put some extra weight on Messi's shoulders

[Jameel46]

messi might go the same way as aimar and not fulfill his potential, hope not though

What about that Allesandro guy who played for Portsmouth on loan.

He's pretty good.

D`Allessandro is one of the most over-rated players I have seen, never been that impressed by him.

Seconded.

He was hyped as the next big thing in Germany and yet failed to impress (besides some nice moments).

Sad to see Riquelme leave the stage for Argentina, since he was one of the last true playmakers. Seeing him live twice really lets you appreciate what a brilliant footballer he is. His vision, passing and elegance is top notch - the only drawback would be a suspect execution of penalties...

Top bloke though. And I am really suprised, that he didn´t move to a "big club" this summer, even at the age of 28. Would have been the perfect player for Bayern Munich. Glad they didn´t get him.

i think d'allesandro is a good player but not good enough to be in the starting line-up of argentina but i won't go as far as saying he's over-rated, i'd say he's more under-rated than over-rated.

[chandraraj]

what a pity. though i respect his decision, he will be sorely missed in international games.

[Arab^Gunner]

i hope
he will rethink and play again ..

who else can wear no. 10 ??

[david3]

dunno, they made a really big decision giving away number 10 to him, and then he retires

[weisheng]

I'll miss him. Great player in my opinion.

I dont think its the same seeing him for villareal.

[david3]

No,when they played against us he never looked that effective

Riquelme hints at U-Turn

Will be interesting to see how he does, I for one don't think he'll be too successful in terms of bringing anything new to the table. But Aguero should be happy.

[nidza7]

It`ll be a short one IMO.

[clockwork orange]

Is this some new kind of trend, appointing the father in law of 1 of the players?

We already have Van Bommel's father-in-law in charge of Holland. Now the Argies, wonder who's next.

----

It isn't official yet. Anyone else have the feeling, Maradona deliberately overstated the result of the conversation he had. Now he's gone public, he's made his appointment a fait accompli. Another brilliant attacking move started by Diego, got the feeling he'll score (official confirmation). The only option for the Argentinian FA left is a red card foul on Maradona.

[JazzG]

This is gonna end in tears, only way it might work is if he has a good assistant by his side. Kind of like how Klinmann had Loe(sp?) in World Cup 2006.

[Arai]

Err...greatest as a player. But as a coach did not have good track record.

Still too early to make any conclusion.Let see....

[banduan]

1:6 to bolivia... oh dear.

It was played in a vacuum chamber though so I can understand.

[Jameel46]

4-0 win
1-6 loss

atleast we know the competitive matches will be exciting
