Arsenal Finances

I sense one of those needless arguments coming up. Needless to say, this was the statement from which the conversation started:

"That gives us a transfer budget of around 70-80m per year."

A budget is not a prediction.

Why so serieuse?
Exactly @Goon_si . Its as if I've insulted his mum or something. @ScotVieira Do you prowl internet forums going after posters that do not match your lofty standards of posting? Is that your thing? :D

It doesn't matter what the exact figures are and what financial model each poster uses to arrive at their best estimate of the transfer budget.

The bottom line is that we have **** loads of ****ing money to strengthen the team.

I read today that cash balance was something like 193 millions. It will go well beyond 200 millions next summer.

Everything building up for Wenger last season.

Posted this in the 'Modern Economics' thread but it's probably more suited to this one:

Just had a look at our financials for the last four years.

We spent the last two years in negative leverage (12/13 and 13/14) and would have done so in 11/12 but for significant player trading. Last year (14/15) was the first time we hit 'sustainable' positive leverage

We were losing money in 11/12, 12/13, despite making positive net cash flows from operations - only in the past two seasons have we made positive net cash flows.

So clearly, we were hamstrung financially up until 13/14 - however, we've had the cash generating power for two seasons now and not spending this summer was negligence.

What does Rosicky earn? What on earth were we doing giving him an extension... excuse not to buy probably.

One thing I hate about these bloggers is that they write as if they KNOW. This same Swiss Ramble, a few years ago, was writing about how Wenger did not want to spend money available to improve the squad. Now they have written:

"Major shareholder Alisher Usmanov noted that Wenger had been put in a very difficult position, as the shareholders did not put money in to finance the new stadium, which meant that the near quarter of a billion incurred to date on stadium was not available to improve the squad. That’s evidently correct, but it is equally true that Arsenal have left a lot of available money in the bank to attract one of the lowest interest rates in history, while transfer inflation is running amok."

Most of these things are written speculatively...as long as we click and read, they are happy.

For those that think we didn't have much money to spend do you think we had less available than West Ham, Sp**s, crystal Palace, Liverpool, Swansea? How little is little and how much is a lot. By anyone's standards surely the only answer is there was more money available to spend than what was actually spent.

Is there some other alternate point-of-view? Where's that analysis?

The money to speculate with is decided at board level
