We did improve the midfield though. We brought back Ceba who completely transformed our midfield in the last weeks of last season and is only getting better.

But we already had him? As it stands compared to the start of last season our midfield has effectively lost Torreira, Guendouzi and Özil, and added Elneny and perhaps ESR. That's the opposite of an improvement.

I wonder if the decision to hold onto AMN will be viewed as a long term success. If we sold him for 25m alongside Martinez would we be in this position at present. All if, buts and maybes, but we've made a few decisions to retain players that were close to leaving.

That's, like, your opinion, man.

People talking we haven't improved the midfield when we fought off giants to keep the Egyptian Ronaldinho.

It will be interesting to see which panic buy/loan we now go for. Leaving it this close to the end of the window limits our opportunities massively with obviously tight funds.

According to Telefoot we tried to offer Guendouzi in part of Aouar deal. There seem absolutely no plan about what we are doing

Powder dry or short term loans. Although I'd rather try and develop Saka, ERS, Willock, Nelson and Martinelli.

Give them all a decent season and then we can ship the weaker ones on for a decent fee after a year's regular experience.

Yousif makes a good point. We gave a lot of minutes to young academy kids last season, Willock had like 40 appearances or something, and we ended up in 8th. That probably wasn't a total coincidence. You can play one or two of the best ones, obviously Saka is easily good enough, but if you're using all of them you're not getting anywhere near top 4.

Net spend this summer:

Chelsea: £160m
Manchester City: £87m
Leeds United: £79m
Sp**s: £76m
Aston Villa: £74m
Sheffield United: £50m
Everton: £39m
Manchester United: £35m
Newcastle United: £34m
Fulham: £27m
West Brom: £21m

Arsenal: £7m

There's no excuse when you're in the PL. All teams got their TV money. Yes our wage bill is outrageous but 50M will be gone from it from now until next June.

You'd expect most of the above teams to do more business as well.

But it is true that the market has been affected, that loans are much more common. When the dust has settled it will become even more apparent just how incredible Chelsea's business has been this summer. To accumulate over 200m worth of young assets this summer is something that will give them an advantage for many years to come.

With all youngsters we gave chance last season only Martinelli and Saka should stay the rest should go in loan Willock ESR Nelson

He was here last season so we haven't improved our midfield

We have essentially swapped Pepe for Willian and not improved anything in midfield yet.

It would be absolutely shocking if we dont do anything.

You don't believe a 22y old player can improve individually and thus adds to overall quality of the team?

Don't be daft.

I totally agree teams with unlimited funds like man city Chelsea won't have problems clubs self sustained like us will need to sell.
