Aston Villa: Marco Bizot

@Stevo the Villan

Not sure anyone had Villa in a potential title race. Hopefully you can keep momentum. Villa were very good.

Gg. Now **** off.
We won't have enough for a title challenge, unless the club decide to just **** the rules in January and spend some serious money, but it's nice to be in the conversation at this point in the season.

If we had the financial headroom to keep the squad we finished last season with then I'd genuinely think we had a chance. It took him a season and a half but Emery seems to have hit the exact right balance between league and europe.
But I just don't think we have the squad depth to continue this kind of form for a whole season

People forget we were in a similar position in 2023. We had a game against bottom of the table Sheffield Utd that year that would have put us top of the table at Christmas if we'd won. But we bottled it.
That season we fell away a bit (but still finished 4th)

Last season we mastered that end of season form but didn't have a great start to the season.

Like I said in the match thread, still fully expecting you guys to win the league, and think you'll be comfortable. 2nd-5th could get interesting though. As long as we're in one of those positions at the end of the season I'll be very very happy

For everyone spouting “good ebening” it felt kind of poetic that the winner was scored by “buen dia”

Ever pondered dat? The coincidence?

Usually, your posts are either shooting down some poor bastard named Clive or you reminding us how it "Could never be you" regarding some obscure factoid. But every once in a while you come up with a post that is

I’d be generous and say the ratio of my golden posts and my absolute twaddle posts is about 1/1000 but when I do strike gold:

The Emery revisionism that happens every time they beat us is so tedious. Didn't hear a peep when they didn't score for like five games at the beginning of the season.

He was a crap manager for us but is doing extremely well for Villa, so people need to just let it be. We're very happy with our manager and I'm sure they're very happy with theirs.

(I'm talking about on Twitter - I've not really read this thread recently)

As I said at the time, it’s almost as if you shouldn’t use a tiny sample to define a manager’s entire tenure

No doubt Villa are nothing special, just on one of them weird runs Emery has every now and then. We had one of the most unconvincing winning runs you will ever see under him. Villa will certainly revert to their true level soon enough, but I would say that will be good enough for 5th and CL football.

Why the laughing face @Stevo the Villan ? Nothing I said is wrong.

Clearly you are feeling a bit cocky. Don't forget we have been there with Emery and you could very easily lose 5 on the spin, this is what he does. 5th place finish would be good for villa, don't be offended.

One of them weird runs Emery has occasionally. He’s had those runs every season with us. Literally.

At what point do those become more than just weird runs and actually just what he does?

We COULD lose 5 in a row, sure. But Emery is in his fourth season with us and has now managed hundreds of games for us and never lost more than 3 in a row. So “very easily” losing 5 in a row is “what he does”? Come on. Let’s not be silly.

That’s why I’m laughing.

(And I don’t think I’m cocky. I think I’ve been very gracious since Saturday. All I’ve done is wish you guys well and talk up your title chances. I know that coming onto another club’s fan forum and talking **** after beating them isn’t going to go down well)

Emery is a cup manager, patchy, hence these type of runs. Pretty sure he went into PSG, who had won the league many years straight and finished 2nd. I was delighted when he got the boot from Arsenal to be honest.

He took over Villa when they were 17th and took them to 7th. Finished 4th in his first full season and would’ve got CL last season if they didn’t get screwed by the refs at OT on the final day of the season.

Don’t think them being 3rd is an outlier at all, the sample size is big enough now since Gerrard got sacked:

Yep, hence why I said they will make CL. 4th or 5th place. I just don't believe Emery would win the PL if he were manager of any current club.

He’s a cup manager yet has produced those runs every single season for us in the league becoming our most successful premier league manager (by miles). Ok.

I’m sure you were delighted when he left. And fair enough. You’re kinda talking **** now though.
