Think their crazy good run that had them in the "title race" for a minute and the inevitable course correction that dropped them back down the table has skewed some people's expectations a bit. If they finish top 5 it will be a massive achievement for Emery imo. Basically spent nothing over the summer while all the teams around them spent big, and it’s not like their squad was even that good to start with. The fact that Emery even has them in roughly the same spot as 400m spending champions Liverpool and Chelsea is a big credit to him. Even finishing 6th would be a pretty good year.
Not sure why some of our fans seem obsessed with making Emery out to be some clown in general or act like he destroyed the club. He had 18 months here that didn't work out for a variety of reasons, but it's not like he was some toxic prick. He's basically a footnote in the clubs history. It's not worth acting like we have some sort of axe to grind with the bloke when we really don't.
