I'm almost 50. I've spent plenty of time sitting at the top of the mountain with this club. I've been hardened by decades of hatred and violence and the rest - I just think that outside the knuckle dragging types things are different now.

Maybe the difference is the influence of online communication and how that has evolved.

Maybe @Stevo the Villan is not only as sane as he appears, but also sits with/communicates with pretty sound people, but a lot of the Villa online discourse has become really violently anti-Arsenal in a way that wasn't the case when we were last this good. A lot seems wrapped up in this 'RED CARTEL' bollocks, that fundamentally misunderstands how the rules are made, voting processes etc, but again, maybe thats more an online space thing, which tends to give people licence to act in a way they wouldn't in person (and I guess I try to be conscious of not doing that).

The home crowd this also more hostile in a targetted way than it used to be. To be fair, it may just be that Villa Park is now a more universally hostile away ground than it used to be. I don't watch enough Villa games to make a judgement on that.

I just find it shocking, because there is an edge between the fanbases, the online discourse and even seemingly at board level that never used to be there. Maybe its also a reflection of Villa actually being consistently good for the last few seasons, so the emnity is now targetted at different clubs to prevouisly. Maybe there is something in the last Arsenal title winning sides being so obviously better than most other teams, and with genuine superstar player that muted some of the ill feeling.

More broadly, there is a slightly artificiality to a lot of the 'beef' between different clubs and their fan bases at the moment that makes me wonder who is fuelling it and why.

As for Arsenal fans giving Klopp a hard time when they were fighting City and we were miles off it - they were just dickheads to be honest. Liverpool fans are in totality among the most irritating because the have almost as much entitlement as Man U fans, and even more of persecution complex than Arsenal fans, but its a fine club, well run for the most part, connected with their community, and generally do things in a pretty 'right' way. I know I wasn't alone in looking in that peak Klopp team as a model of aspiration, and I've never actually had a face to face conversation with anyone who hates Klopp.

Maybe I'm just old enough now to have become old fashioned, and to have more good will and respect for a number of other clubs than is normal these days. Like everytime some tit on here has pop at fans of other clubs on the same forum (bar the occasional obvious troll), it makes me cringe. I appreciate both of your contributions a lot, and this forum would be a poorer place without you.

It's not him only, since Emery is at Villa there's a lot of fanfiction about how Emery wants to create a rivalry and plays every game against us like is a final, etc. Been going for years

We just don't want to accept that when the stakes actually matter, Emery just slaps Arteta pretty effortlessly, at times in a quite embarrassing way too. Did it with Villareal, has done it with Villa when we were in those title runs back then too. That's why Villa away on GW2 was such a blessing, there aren't any stakes on GW2. But there's nothing else to it really.

Liverpool got an immense amount of hatred on here during the peak Klopp years despite going up against ****ing Man City, the literal cheating state owned sportswashing travesty of a football club. Liverpool's crime? Klopp was a bit intense/weird and people liked them too much, or something like that.

I mean, nobody here likes Liverpool but I think most were still cheering for them to beat City and certainly in the overall footballing world and in the media Liverpool were framed as the 'good guys' in their title runs against City while we were consistently framed as the 'bad guys' by media and neutral fans.

It might be something as simple as that neutrals really really really get triggered by Arteta's over-the-top sideline antics, but I would strongly disagree that we have generally been treated the same as Liverpool were by those media and neutrals.

Firstly he quite obviously wasn’t at the game, so when exactly were we booing?

During the banter years we were the worst club in the premier league and eventually got relegated with a near record points low.

This is my point though, Liverpool should by all objective metrics be the club you'd favor in a competition between them and City, yet the media and social media narratives completely warped it.

I'm by no means suggesting Arsenal is treated as favorably by the media as Liverpool was/is, that'd be insane. And I'll concede that the differential treatment Arsenal and Liverpool have gotten in the English media over the years has definitely played a part.

The "extra" hate for Arsenal (outside of the standard top club envy) largely comes from just how unbelievably loud you lot are online. AFTV alone went a long way to portray Arsenal fans as crazy, deluded weirdos in the same way Rory Jennings is basically fighting a one man crusade to make Chelsea fans look as unfathomably stunted as possible.

Garnacho shouldn't be signed i don't know what who was behind this signing bro already not taking things seriously there. haven't even noticed him when he played against us and he was up against White who was doing his best to gift Villa the ball.
