Villa were never title challengers as their away form would spell out to you, but I understand why the Arteta guys were gagging for a Villa loss as they felt threatened by Emery's work as you can see by b*m ass @SuperMikel

I don't know why anyone is surprised. We saw Emery enough at Arsenal to know that he's more than capable of a false dawn. We should have beaten them and their general play has been poor for weeks now. Every time any actual expectations outside of a free hit in Europa League present themselves to Emery, he implodes. He's got an entire body of work that shows this but people will get carried away and ignore history. He's doing a good job there but they aren't title contenders, weren't ever title contenders and will fall away sooner than later.

I like Villa; grand old club, proper club, and a rich history. I like Unai; i think he is very underrated and we probably made a mistake letting him go watching Mik go through coaching puberty has been terrifying. But honestly it isn’t an indictment of Arteta. Arteta end of day will be judged on what he delivers just like Emery.

Let’s remember when he took over 13 months ago or so they were in a relegation fight. He instantly took them to Conference league and this year maybe CL. That would be a huge accomplishment. Villa, were legit awful forever before Unai so the man deserves what plaudits he gets

I was more threatened by Emery when he was our manager. Buying duds like Pepe & Torreira. Failing to install any sense of cohesion. We were going nowhere with Emery.

I understand he is doing very well at Villa, but he had a record here to, and it was ****. People who suggested it was a mistake to sack him are gaslighting. Contrast the players Arteta has brought in, relative to Unai and its night and day. People will say Arteta has spent more money. Yeah, however we wouldnt have spent 100m on a player like Rice when Emery was manager, as a player like Rice wouldnt have wanted to come to us. There are only so many players worth dropping massive fees on, but to do so they need to be convinced to join, probably explains why the best we could do with Emery, was Pepe, as no one else of serious note wanted to join.

We have realistic ambitions of a Premier League title under Arteta. We never had that with Emery

Unai Emery didnt sign the players when he was here. He had nothing close to the power Mikel Arteta have now. Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi signed the players during the Emery era but since @SuperMikel is a Arteta supporter rather than a Arsenal supporter he dont know this.

Really poor couple of games from us.
Sheff Utd we at least looked like the better team for a large portion but just couldn't score. Then we panicked and were lucky to get a point.

Against Man Utd we were just really terrible. The 2 goals they handed us flattered us, we didn't deserve to lose 3-2, we deserved to lose 3-0.

Having Kamara and Pau Torres out is hugeley damaging. It's not really an excuse, we should still have enough to beat Sheff Utd, but it's glaringly obvious how important they are to our team/

I said on here before that Kamara is the most underrated player in the league. Most people don't even know who he is yet he's one of our most important players and we're 3 points off the top.


Ultimately Emery is right. The last two results have been poor but we can't let it take away from the huge achievement we've managed this season so far. 39 points at this stage would have been beyond anybody's wildest dreams in August, so we can't let the disappointment of not being top of the league at christmas take away from that.

We need to beat Burnley and then we have 2 weeks to regroup and see if we can recapture that form.

Remember Emery has got this form out of us for 12 months now. It's not just 19 games, it's 40 games. We were never going to win the title, but this isn't just a purple patch

It is a well-known fact that Emery wanted to sign Zaha not Pepe. So the blame for that at least must be laid elsewhere, presumably Edu.

Emery four years into the job got Almeria from the second tier to a top half La Liga finish. When he was 41 he had lost the likes of David Villa, Silva and Mata and still got back to back 3rd in the league. Arteta could coach until the sun burns out he wouldn't be able to replicate that.

Just as Emery wouldn't be able to do what Arteta is doing right now. Don't see why people have to constantly compare them, they operate in completely different areas. If you absolutely had to look just at the coaching part there's a chasm between them no question about it.
