Aston Villa: The Emery Era

I love Arteta, but I would have been happy for Emery to have been backed. He never had the best cards on the table.

I do think him moving here before he had a grasp on the language was a bit foolish. It was always a struggle to replace the gap Wenger left.

I agree with you and others that whoever took over Wenger was doomed anyways.

Was just a phase we had to go though, no need for regret especially as we’re doing well and Emery has come back stronger.

I regret the decision, it probably cost us league last year; Mik’s inexperience showed

The same arsenal fans i remember that couldn't wait for us to sack him now saying he should have stayed and given 500M to spend

Such wierd fanbase seriously how you forget that he mess up everything in last 5 matchday after good season conceded 3 against Leicester crystal Palace and wolves he sacrificed top 4 because his shiny EL trophy just to get outplayed by Chelsea. He played freaking Jenkinson and Mavropanos in important game to get top 4 finish 🤣🤣 i never forget how everyone lost it that day

I like unai classy guy and good manager but he will never be successful at big club.

Tony Adams said it, i been saying it; Mik didn’t lead us to second he cost us a league title with his self inflicted stupidity and inexperience. Only 2 teams could win league last year, City started slow fronted us a double digit lead and Mik bottled it with 34 points second half of season.

You can't compare the two stints anyway.

Fans expectations and toxicity when Emery came and when Arteta came are two completely different contexts.

I can bet that if Arteta came right after Wenger under the sleazy trio (Gazidis, Raul, Sven + Vinai and Edu) we'd see the back of him much earlier than Emery.

Mik is a coaching nobody; improving very slowly on Stan’s dime; and he tossed away the league we should have won last year as every big club but us and City were in turmoil or rebuilding. So far the Project cost us a league title. For me Mik needs to win league just to make up for his one man bottle job

I remember this one very much.
Watford had 31 shots against us that day.
It was horrible to watch.

Arsenal faced more shots versus Watford than when they lost 8-2 to Man Utd

Xhaka, who was captain then, admitted after the match that they were scared.
Of Watford of all teams.
Incredible. Now you have Arteta shills trying to convince people that Arteta providing us with some of the most dreadful football you'll ever see fighting relegation was only a fever dream?

At the time when we played Watford Emery was already a goner. He was failed by the board in the transfer window and the board driven by Raul and Edu backed players above him.

So we casually forget Arteta playing ESR as false nine in EL and getting pumped by the same Emery? Three shameful Europa exits, a season without Europe, breaking all negative club records in existence, bottling the top 4, and then the title subsequently... that also happened to Emery?

Wow.

So it's Arteta's genius and not only when the now-unified board decided to back him with 500B and not to his asset-devaluating, contract-ripping, player-favoring approach have we got out of this mess. Seriously?

I don't give two ****s about Emery but Arteta's favoritism is something else here. Almost like Arteta's own favoritism when it comes to players.

Arteta should have been sacked in autumn 2020.

Yousif simply stated that those who want Emery now are those who mocked Emery and couldn't wait for Arsenal to sack him back then.
And I agree with him.

And I'm nobody's shill.

I don't think it's unfair to theorize about what would've been if Emery was backed to a tilt akin to Arteta.

Arteta had covid with no fans in the stadium which helped him as well and right after covid the world was depressed which gave him time
