Does anybody else think he could be our right back? The links to RB have seemingly died down on this hectic day. We've been linked with Maddison, White, Neves, Locatelli, Lokonga, Isak, and even Ramsdale but there's been no strong links to a right back. Unless you consider Tyler Adams but he has signed a new contract and is a midfielder by trade. I feel like the skill set Arteta wants out at RB is more align of a midfielder or a 3rd CB like White. He seems like another Chambers to me, but that's just me.

I honestly think that we might be looking at Ben White as our starting RB. I don't think that our long term plan for him would be for him to play RB, but I think he could play there for a season or two. I see similarities to Carles Puyol and Sergio Ramos, in that they broke into the first team at Barca and Real respectively as a RB before transitioning into CB.

At RCB, we have Holding, Saliba, and Chambers; signing White to play RCB when we have quality players there wouldn't make sense unless we are selling Holding or Saliba. We might do that, but until we do I think we might play White at RB before moving him to CB.

I would be very happy with this signing but someone in defence has got to go, no? Without European competition how is Saliba going to get minutes to develop? If he's played at LCB he's got Gabriel and Marí ahead of him, at RCB he'd have White and Holding. Either Marí or Holding would have to go, or Saliba would need to go on loan again (which I don't mind, as long as there is a plan to integrate him into the team in place of Holding or Marí next season).

The ideal thing would be to sell Holding, as he could probably fetch some decent value, sign White, and have Saliba back up White. But that seems unlikely seeing as Holding is considered someone important to the club's future plans according to The Athletic...

Hard to figure this one out, one thing for me is sure: please no Saliba as our 5th CB this season, there aren't enough games for him to develop at all. Loan him out if we buy White or sell one of Holding or Marí (can't see the latter, so yeah, loan him out).

Hopefully Mari? Both Ben and Wilo can play LCB.
White, Gabriel, Saliba, Holding, Chambers(if needed) sounds very solid to me. Definitely an upgrade to what we had a year ago for example.

The 3rd best defence stat is totally irrelevant. Are we able to play out from the back and play a high line with our current options? We can't. Luiz out, White in basically.

Why not use just Saliba there and spend the 50m on a midfielder. Saliba outperforms White in most of the stats.

This is admittedly very true. However Arsenal-Mania, for all the craziness and disagreements, is absolutely one of the most reasoned, well set up footie forums out there. I'm going to bang the drum for A-M. We are lucky up have this place. Honestly, it's a jungle out there with all these scary, foreign teams on the boundary of known civilisation (Leeds, I'm looking at you)

I thought reason for no RB links as we don't need a RB (not that we need a CB either, there are 2 strongest positions in terms of quality and depth). Chambers absolutely fantastic form that the end of season and Cedric having a good overall season saw our beginning of the season poor first choice RB become 3rd choice by the end.

We would have to drop over £40M on this brother and people are talking about RB and CM when CB is his best position....give me strength.

Then again this is Edu and Arteta so they'd probably sign a goalkeeper to play as striker and break the transfer record on a striker to be a ball boy

If we want a traditional overlapping RB then we would go for a specialist instead of spending £40m+ on White.

But if Arteta still wants an inside RB to drop into midfield in possession, it does make sense. White has played as RB and CM and has the passing range, so on paper he'd be perfect for that role.
