terrible to see this happen again. it's really tragic to see young footballers dying out there. i don't know if there's anything that can be done but there are a lot of games to play and it could be asking a lot of some players and in foe's case it's difficult to play in harsh conditions.

What can FIFA possibly do in this case? The Spanish league already have a winter break.

If it was under the circumstances of a meaningless tournament ...

It was in the portugese league wasn't it?

Maybe FIFA could force clubs to look at players heart conditions more carefully. That is the 2nd person to die on the pitch due to a heart problem within 1 year.

Well, what can you do about it? I guess not much, although Foé was later diagnosed of heart enlargement, which most likely lead to his death.

Maybe all players should be examined closer by cardiologists.....but I guess they already are in close medical surveillance (like lactate testings etc.).

RIP Feher.

Very sad, I think every footballer should have the special tests by cardilogists, like Sammer said in the above posts.

The problem is the way in which the first responders attend the victim. I dont know about feher but foe's death was avoidable. If he had immediate rescussitation with continued CPR, and a defibrillator was brought to him on the pitch and electricity used to restore his heart's rhythm, he could be alive. It wasnt and he is dead.

Instead there was along pause before basic life support was instigated, and finally he was taken off the pitch and rescussitation stopped and restarted out of sight. This was medical negligence IMHO.

No enquiry into why or change of action and another death happens. Early Basic life support can be done by anyone with 5 minutes training. Defribillation is now completely automated such that Ranulph Feinnes's life was saved by an airport security man with a little training. It is not rocket science anymore and it is scandelous that athletes in their prime are dying because things that an airport security guard can do successfully cant be done on the pitch of a football ground.

At every premier ground there is a defibrillator. There are ambulance crews and there are a number of doctors amoungst the croud whose responsibility it is to look after the croud. In fact you may be safer in the croud than on the pitch it seems.

I am personally disgusted that another sportsman has died, particularly as their deaths could have been aborted. The trouble is that expediency of removing the victim from the croud's view seems more important than saving a man's life. It takes 5 minutes to train to save someone's life. An automated shocking device can do the rest and anyone can stick that on.

When will someone do something?

Why is there not an outcry at the outrage that has occured in public view of the mismanagement of treatable cardiac arrhythmias

i think FIFA should put the onus on the clubs, ensuring regular rigorous medical tests are performed, especially for top flight clubs. lower clubs dont have as much money to afford this, so maybe more lax rules for them.

we cant let any more people die on the pitch. its not good for the playes and its not good from the game. hopefully FIFA will learn from this latest tragedy.
