You can't really go against that. The bloke has 111 goal contributions in two seasons ffs. That's outrageous, Portuguese league is awful and people have Nunez PTSD but even if he does half those numbers in the PL we are onto a winner.

From everything I know of Arteta though, I don’t think he wants us to be a direct/fast attacking team.

The issue is we don’t play like this. I wish we did have this element to our game, but Arteta prefers slow methodical build up to fast break aways.

We have played direct up to Havertz at times on the occasions that teams have pressed us well.
However, he can only try and hold the ball up, he has little threat in behind, so there's not much point in trying to do so. Again, another part of the reason we can be easily nullified.

We play long to him from the defenders to relieve pressure.

I don’t disagree that it’s a weakness in our game, and that we don’t really have the players to play that way (maybe Gyok would allow us to do that), but everything I know about Arteta tells me that’s not the way he sees the game.

Arteta doesn’t like high turnover games and losing the ball in dangerous areas, so he likes a more methodical approach.

IIRC Rice mentioned in the past he doesn’t like diagonal passes for this reason.

He's a good player, but not for the prices mooted around, or the four months for Merino up front. I need Berta to fix up. Gyokeres should be our fourth or fifth option. Isak, Ekitike, Sesko and Gyokeres in that order.

Only player on that list better than Gyonkeres is isak And will cost twice as much, assuming Newcastle even wants to sell
