Best individual performance on a football match

Wasn’t an actual accident he was involved in.

There was an accident of a plane carrying Dutch players to a charity game somewhere (DB10 wasn’t on it) and a few players got killed iirc. Then a few years later he was on a plane that had engine trouble. Then the final straw was after that when a journalist “joked” he had a bomb on the plane and DB was like yeah fk that I’m done.
Almost F.C 😭😭

Man that's awful, no wonder he didn't fly.

Hope that journalist got a classic Bergkamp forearm to the face after that.

Arteta in 2005... "I want to manage this club I am against one day!"

Edu (and Vieira a little too lol) in 2003... "Not if I can cripple you first!"

What is that Rangers kit? "If we look like Atletico, maybe we can play like them"?

That last tackle by Edu is so nasty, I love how annoyed he looks at Mikel after trying to break his foot 🤣

Gattuso made CR7 invisible in the second leg of the CL semifinal between Milan and Man United in 2007. Definitely one of the best individual performances ever.

I remember an ageing Maldini and Nesta absolutely bodying Messi in some game as well but don’t remember which one.

But it settles any debate about whether defenders “were any good” back in the day. Prime Serie A hit a zenith no other domestic league has ever come close to.

Objective list would probably include like 20-30 Messi games, we've just gotten used to his brilliance.

One of my personal favourites was Fabregas against Milan in 2008 at the San Siro, playing against absolute top opposition on the biggest stage at just 21 and completely ran the show. Scored a worldie too.

This is dumb im the context of all the great names mentioned in this thread, but diaby vs liverpool will always have a place in my heart

Not that I was a massive fan of him or anything like that, but I was just blown away by a guy coming back from perpetual injury and doing some of those things

Wilshere vs barca was already mentioned

Also Arshavin vs liverpool

I agree with the Zidane vs Brazil shouts as that was some performance. Others that come to mind:

- Bale’s hattrick vs Inter Milan is an outside shout. Maicon was highly rated by everyone around Europe and he completely destroyed his rep with that individual masterclass.

- Messi vs us when every shot was hitting the back of the net or even Real Madrid in 2011. This one:

- Gerrard vs AC Milan in Istanbul. Ngl I had to put respect on his name considering the trash Liverpool had vs a stacked Milan team.

- Kaka vs Man Utd

My personal favourite would probably be Ronaldinho vs Real Madrid when the Madrid fans applauded him after he tore them apart at the Bernabeu. Have never seen that in an El Classico.

I agree with @albakos. My GOAT R9 at Old Trafford is one of the most extraordinary things I've ever seen, and made all the more extraordinary by the fact that R9 was playing on 1 good leg at that point. Didn't matter, they still couldn't do anything with him.

Zidane vs Brazil was also outrageous. He was basically toying with an elite team and seemed almost amused by how easily he was doing it.

I would like to add Neymar against PSG to complete that comeback. The press gave Messi all the credit which I think was the straw that broke the camel's back and made Neymar leave for PSG but that win was all down to Neymar just refusing to be eliminated and both scoring and providing until the job was done.

Unfortunately for me, I missed what I think were probably the best individual performances on a pitch in the 90's because I had no way of watching myself at recess but I was basically kid R9.

As a Belgian, a performance that I'll always will remember is Anthony Vanden Borre running circles against Spain in '08. Played in the back and he was everywhere: bursting forward in attack, bossing in defence.

Marcel Desailly for AC Milan in UCL final 1994. when AC Milan destroyed Barcelona 4:0 (Barcelona was considered to be a favourite).

He arrived in summer 1993. from Marseille after UCL final against AC Milan when he impressed as CB.
Fabio Capello converted him to defensive midfielder.
His performance against Barcelona in this final has set the template for modern defensive midfielders.
Impressive and flawless.
Him and Demetrio Albertini together controlled midfield completely.
The best individual performance of one player in Champions League final.

It is well known the referees are protected very well like the lions in the zoo so we have to live with their decisions
