Biggest flops?

Trying to think of some that haven't been said:

Carroll/Keane/Aquilani to Liverpool (they've had a lot)
Mendieta to Lazio
Anelka to Real
Denilson to Betis (considering he was a world record at the time)

I always forget about Mendieta, was a baller at Valencia and died at Lazio, the early 2000's was a period of big money transfers for its time and a lot of failures.

Barca signed a Ukraninan RB for a big fee if I remember correctly which lasted abouta year.

I imagine early 2000 Serie A had a lot of expensive flips, Lazio, Roma etc were all throwing money about the league.

Yeah Mendieta had one of the quickest declines of top players that I can remember after he left Valencia. He was always decent enough at Middlesbrough but nowhere near the genuine world class player he had been by that point.

Chygrynsky is the defender you might be thinking of at Barca.

Thats the guy, just checked and surprised to see he was signed in 2008 by Guardiola, always thought he was earlier than that.

Few more to add to the list;

Malcom - just a weird signing
Nelson Semedo - £32m
Andre Gomes
Bakayoko
Saviola

Andy Carroll is another one worth mentioning, 40m in 2011 was insane money

ScoutNation did a nice higlight reel clip of him

Definitely, could even argue his move to West Ham was a flop and that was for less than half the price Liverpoolpaid for him.

On that note; Torres 50mil to Chelsea.

Complete random one; Robbie Keane to Inter Milan, £17.5million and played 6 games for them, one of lifes forgotten transfers.

The dumpster fire that was Mustafi.

Hate him so much, ridiculous money spent on him by us... everything that has went wrong at Arsenal can be traced back to him, including things that went wrong before we even signed him.

Most clubs have had some shockers, not necessarily through fault of their own. Sebastian Haller springs to mind, on fire before and after West Ham but just didn't fit there at all.

Liverpool are always praised for their scouting and signings but they spent nearly £100m on Ox and Keita.

The guy flopped for the same club twice, unheard of. Can't think of any other player that's done this.

Signed for 17m in 2011, and £100M in 2021.

I suppose the thing with him the first time round is he was sold for double what they paid for him which for there loan/sell model at the time works however I get your point.

You reminded me: Anthony Martial.
