Anyway seems like PSG are asking for 100m+ for him, I'd still take him but if we're spending that much it should be on Diomande. Unless Yamal becomes available somehow that has to be #1 target for the club, if Arteta is serious about being more like PSG he moves heaven and hell for that kid.

Have Hairspray taken over this account? Someone needs to contact German authorities I'm worried for brother @jones

Not even trying to act like Sherlock Holmes but I doubt that’s the point @Clrnc was trying to make. This is post #490 where he mentions his productivity criticism and attributes (dribbling and close control) but he doesn’t concretely point out that it’ll translate over to the PL:

Don't get why are people actually complaining about Barcola's lack of productivity. His finishing consistency is his main weakness yet he scored 44 goals in his last 100 odd appearances.

Dribbling and close control is actually his strong point

And the part in bold is the conclusion you made:

People aren’t ****ting on the talent - they’re calibrating their judgement of player performances in weaker leagues when determining if they are able to play for Arsenal at a higher level.

Some people will look at a scoring record in France and act like it equally translates over - when it more often than not doesn’t.

Seems like you jumped the gun here and read too much into his post.

I did say ‘act like’ and not ‘concretely said’. It’s obviously implied. The concern people have is he won’t score many goals here which is what we want from an upgrade. He posts his goalscoring record to say that his record isn’t bad. But that’s his record in France and that doesn’t mean he’s necessarily going to carry that ratio over to the PL.

Fairs but that's exactly my point though. You're saying it's obviously implied but what you've actually done is assume it yourself. Posting Barcola’s goalscoring record as evidence that he's productive isn't the same thing as saying that record will directly translate to the PL.

All I'm saying is that @Clrnc talked about his productivity and attributes. The leap from that to “he thinks the numbers will translate” is your interpretation not something he explicitly stated. Anyways not really a fan of that personally but that might just be me.

We’re judging him on whether he’d be a good signing for Arsenal. Therefore, any comments made in this thread are naturally made in the context of how his qualities would translate to the Premier League. That doesn’t need to be stated explicitly every time because it’s already implicit in the discussion. This is a thread about Arsenal potentially signing Barcola.

If by all means - his point wasn’t made in the context of Arsenal signing him and just as a statement of fact, then he can say so.

I agree that the discussion is ultimately about whether he'd be good enough for Arsenal as that's the context of the thread. The part I disagree with is that mentioning his productivity and attributes automatically means he's saying they'll translate successfully to the PL. That's a conclusion you've drawn from the post rather than something he actually stated.

So I don't disagree that Arsenal is the context, I just think you've taken more from his post than what was actually put together. It feels like we're going around in circles at this point, so I'll leave it there.

I think Kroupi, Barcola and Roger’s is the overhaul we need in attack. All young with high potential and all still very good and much better than what we have.

You have actually got it the complete opposite. I was replying to the posts in the previous pages where it was claimed that Barcola's numbers are poor in France, not that he was productive. I took a look and was surprised he actually scored that many goals in the past 2 years for someone who is poor in front of goal. Then I mentioned that in any case his strong points are his other attributes. @2Smokeyy was absolutely right in the sense that the post doesn't imply anything else at all, how could it be?

The rest are just your own imagination

Barcola’s a better finisher than Roger’s but AM isn’t ready for that conversation.

Roger’s has very good outside the box shooting but that’s a slightly different skill set. Barcola has that far post Henry finish down and has a decent toe poke and near post finish too.

All finishes that are situationally specific to a LW who’s going to be bearing down on goal from the left side with a keeper coming towards him to close the angle. Watch a Roger’s comp and while impressive I’m not seeing the kind of goal scoring/finishing package we need for the LW.

Barcola should be option #1 and it’s not even close, I think the club feel the same though. We can get Roger’s if we want and my suspicion is that we’ll see movement on Roger’s only when the Barcola door is closed. Dreamland if we get both though.

I don't feel it, I think Arteta would definitely prefer Rodgers. He actually ticks every box of a typical Arteta signing. PL experience, expensive but ready-made, more compliant in possession and seem like a more down to earth listen to instructions kind of guy than the flamboyant french who is inconsistent in front of goal, doesn't work as hard and more of a work in progress for PL football.

I am with you though, definitely prefers Barcola as his ceiling is higher and a natural winger with the pace we desperately needs especially if we flog Martinelli. Can't see us signing 2 new left wingers but we really should be doing that to elevate our attack

You're right - why would I think in an Arsenal thread to sign Barcola that you might be talking about his record and productivity in relation to how it would translate to us. How could it possibly be the case - we're obviously only here talking about him in the context of PSG and nothing in relation to Arsenal, PL or a transfer or transferability of his skills and attributes.

Good to clarify!

Inconsistent in front of goal, sure, but isn’t Barcola recognized for his high defensive work rate and tactical discipline?

So, he basically has everything but the consistent final ball.

If I am forced to pay 80m for one of these available LFs, I am taking the ridiculous pace and work rate. It’s what we lack.

Leaving aside the relative merits of Bradley vs Morgan on the field (and I’m assuming it’s either/or, but both would be great), I think Barcola would send a stronger message about our ambition. Taking a high profile player from the double CL champs would scare our rivals in a way Rogers wouldn’t

But I think they’ll go for Rogers on price and team fit grounds

Why not?

I don't have preference, I'd sell both Martinelli and Trossard and bring both Barcola and Rogers.

Because Roger’s is the favourite on here right now and because Barcola missed some chances against us in the final everyone on here now thinks he’s a very wasteful finisher which isn’t the case.

He’s not a killer in front of goal but he has some good finishes in his locker and from what I can see he’s scored 11 goals from 10.8 xG in the league which isn’t bad. I can’t find last season’s numbers anywhere though.

It is very stupid to assess the player based on 1 game.
We need both in our attack, dribbling/ pace (Barcola) and pass-and-move/ shooting/ EPL exprerience (Rogers).
Therefore, bring them both.

If we're signing both for the LW - it's the same as what Liverpool did by signing Ekitike and Isak. You don't buy two high profile players for the same position - you're bound to piss one or both off as you'll be promising both key roles. It's easier to get buy-in when you stagger the signings.

It is a totally different case. Ekitike and Isak are both CF. Roger main position is AM just like Eze. LW not his strongest position.

Arsenal Quotes

The only moment of possible happiness is the present. The past gives regrets. And future uncertainties. Man quickly realised this and created religion. It forgives him what he has done wrong in the past and tells him not to worry about the future, as you will go to paradise.
