We shouldn’t be. You know who we could try to get..?

Nah, joke aside. I want us to show some aura in the window and act like we’re the best team in Europe. At least bid for guys like Yildiz, Diomande and even Kvara or Vini. Just to show that we mean business.
Bid for players who don’t want to join? What’s that going to do?

Typically bids only happen if the player’s representatives have indicated they’d be willing to join.

Otherwise why go through the legal work of preparing a bid just for the player to say no?

Yildiz, Kvara and Doue.
I think it’s a bit like the girls I used to pursue in my younger years. They say something like “Don’t touch me you ****ing creep” but it’s obviously just about playing hard to get

Yeah fair, but at least some links then. And not “inquired” about and got told off. More like “Arsenal are huge admirers of X and plan to bring the player to the Emirates in a bid to raise the ceiling and boost their chances of a PL/CL double next season”.

This is the Barcola thread guys. Let’s focus on Bradley
When u say his name like that Bradley it doesn't seem exciting at all. More like a name of your local mate who works at the chippie and plays for a pub team and is either a bird watcher or a train watcher

Rogers will be a good longterm signing, but we won't see it until the 27/28 season. Think next season he'd be a player to play many roles, in and out of the team.

Next season, I imagine he'll face similar issues to Kai and Merino had, finding a regular position, filling in holes.
If we sign him, I’d be absolutely shocked if he doesn’t struggle for at least the first 3-4 months. No matter the position really, I think there’ll be an adaptation period, and I think we’ll eventually find he works best working in that half space and he’s going to start getting more minutes down the middle

I’ve watched a lot of Roger’s and I was actually guilty of overrating him in the past based on his highlights. I remember having this discussion with @Dokaka who was the one who slowed my roll on him a bit. I’d have loved to sign Roger’s last season instead of Eze but I now think he’s a bit of a redundant profile now.

Roger’s is currently an xG overachiever based on this one season where his shooting from outside the box has gone up a level. On the surface that’s lovely but when I look at what our team needs I think a player who generates shots inside the box and matches his xG is a better fit than a player who takes lots of long range efforts, scores some and finishes the season with massive xG overachievement. Foden did the same thing a few seasons ago and @Sebastes called it out as unsustainable even though I disagreed with him at the time. Foden is still just as good of a shooter of the ball but you just can’t rely on players to regularly score long shots, they experience big swings in their end product if that’s their primary source of goals.

TL;DR: xG overachievement from outside the box is nice but we need someone who generates more volume and shots in the box imo.
Especially with coaches like Guardiola or even Arteta. We know Arteta is a numbers guy, he wants to generate the chances most likely to score a goal. He’s going to want to tilt the percentages rather than be speculative. When we were at our most potent up front in 23/24, how were we scoring? A lot of crosses to the back post for a 6’4” Kai to tap in with his head. Arteta could give a **** about a dude with good ball striking from outside the box, especially as we already have midfielders like Eze, Trossard, and Rice that can get shots off when they need to.

Can never guess what Arteta is up to, so will be interesting to see if these links gather momentum.

It could hint at a change in playing style for the team or position/role for Rogers but I’ve learnt that Arteta’s ideas in the transfer window aren’t always the best and we usually end up making some kind of in-season change to correct an idea that hasn’t worked out like it should have.

Martinelli and Trossard out, Barcola and Rogers in is the play this summer.

We can then take our time on CM and RB/CB, and also be on the ready for a market opportunity (maybe Madrid let someone go).
Barcola and Rogers would be a dream, an absolute dream with Monga getting a championship loan or a season training with the first team and getting some Dowman minutes.

Both are doable imo. Give us a lot of what we are missing.

We’d still probably be one technician short but it’s a massive massive improvement.
