Trying hard to forget about this guy - because we're trying to overtake PSG with their substitute player. Make it make sense.. ultimately they should be the benchmark, and if he's expendable there we shouldn't be drooling over him like this...

At the same time the potential of a Thierry-esque arch makes it difficult to look away..

I don’t really see that reasoning. I think people are getting too attached to symbolic things like that. If Barcola was not getting into the Madrid team because of Vinicius then people wouldn’t be saying it.

The fact is, how many times have we seen talented players not get enough game time at a team then explode after? We saw it ourselves with a player in the exact same position as Barcola, and the man was Alexis Sanchez. Palmer did it at Chelsea as well coming from City (slightly different circumstances I recognise).

It’s like people would rather go for a more risky or lower ceiling attacker just because they don’t play at PSG, due to the optics.

A very bizarre line of thinking, honestly. That he's got heavy competition with one of the best in that role in the world - in the same team no less - should actually mean there's something in there to work with. I mean he was the man holding down that role before Kvara's arrival ffs. If anything he's got a point to prove like Alexis Sanchez did.

Fair point on Alexis and Palmer, and I even gave you the example of Thierry, but realistically right now, this guy's finishing is too much of a work in progress at 23 for all that glazing.

I doubt he’ll ever put up numbers a la Salah or Alexis. When Alexis came, he was a finished product who hit the ground running.

My bizarre thinking/ symbolism or whatever just stems from the fact that a guy PSG benched last year is not taking us to a final and beating them a year later. If we're getting a squaddie (even if for £128 million) I'm all for it, it's not my money, but he's supposed to be our go-to-guy, and I'm not seeing it. We should be getting our own Kvara's and Dembeles first, and then their rotation. I mean to think PSG got Kvara for 70m a year and half ago is absolute filth lol.

All of that said, I'd be happy to eat my words.

Maybe I'm hating, but so far I see this guy's profile more like a Cuadrado than a Thierry, Salah, or even Palmer. At the end of the day, you and me both don't have much to go by other than hopes. Either hopes that his finishing miraculously improves, or hopes that he joins us and magically clicks as Thierry did, and damn are those some big shoes to fill.

I see where you’re coming from that it’s still a gamble and could end up just paying a pretty serviceable winger and that’s it. But the other options out there are rubbish. If it’s not a silly fee I would be happy with Barcola.

Since you believe in the redemption arc, allow me to sell you the Nico Williams project.

It's got hints of Dembele leaving Spain to completely dominate in a new environment. It's a risk yuno but we've seen him be a main guy before, just needs to stay fit imo. Would be an absolute statement though from us.

I would have actually been open to this but apparently he’s got really bad injury issues which requires surgery? Something like that at least.

Smh these guys are all skipping surgery for the WC. Seems like it's getting to him emotionally too, going by how he cussed out the Uruguayan guy on IG for taking him out.. seems he had a bad year with that groin, after the Euros. Happens though, would be a decent time to scoop him up. We'd have a star boy on the right with an Achilles and a starboy on the left with a groin smfh.

Getting close to closing this thread. Barcola isn't coming.
It is looking less and less likely, mainly as PSG are not keen on selling to us.

It was said elsewhere that we may have countless fans questioning at a later date why we did not sign either him or Diomande.

The simple answer being neither were readily available for us to sign.

For the umpteenth time.

He’s not expendable, they want to keep him. He was part of an equal rotation until Kvara upped his game to best LW in the world levels and that’s when he became more of a sub. There is no shame to losing out in competition to a guy who took his game to that level.

You’re thinking of this too simplistically I fear 😭
