My reading (of the tea leaves) on this situation:

- Agents told Berta they could arrange a transfer at 55-65M
- Berta said that would be swell
- Newcastle told agents: WTF are you talking about
- Berta keeping the onus on agents to deliver on (or close to) what they presented, not engaging Newcastle directly
- Newcastle miffed by undercut approach but also realizing the situation is untenable if player wants move.

If so, I think Berta is playing it right by leveraging agents.

Net, this is exactly what you want -stature/attraction of club leveraged to catalyze deals on favorable terms. It’s a mini version of an effect Mardrid/Barca rutinely benefit from. Aka, big di*k energy.

Only signing I am excited about so far. This actually improves our midfield and provides cover for Rice who will struggle to match last season high standards.

We will be weaker in defence without Saliba/Timber (no transfers can help this), similar level in attack and improved in midfield if this happens.

You say that last thing like it's a fact, but it's a choice. And you can define marquee differently than me but for me Alvarez, Barcola are marquee signings, Vini/Mbappe naturally as well, Yildiz or Diomando too, even Rogers although I dont want him at all.

to me a marquee signing if a forward i expect them to give us like 25 league goals and consistent performance and apart from Vini i don't expect that from all these guys. i think Rogers have lot of abilites our current squad missing pace ball carrying and ability to score from distance but like many people here could be a risk if it doesn't work out as LW we'll be looking next summer to sign another LW.
