Lots of black players like Paul Ince rolled out for England when they were getting it to their face on the street growing up and in the stands when they were playing. Things are far better now.

Far better doesn’t make it right or comfortable. Furthermore many prefer to know where they stand but now it’s a lot more covert and you get gaslighted.

I wouldn’t even say it’s better, it’s just different.

From an outside perspective, it does appear to be far better in general. The problem is that social media empowers and amplifies fringe views. So you get more of the bullshit even if the bullshit/non-bullshit ratio is much better.

Doesn't just apply to race/ethnicity related things but everything else. Being very particular about your social media usage is the only way to navigate it, especially if you're a public figure like these lads are.

Completely agree and the gaslighting point is interesting. I think it is predominantly unconcious now so covert like you said. You sense it throughout your life and become more sure its a thing and you can easily end up at the conclusion theres societal gaslighting going on because people yap about how beautiful diversity is but behaviour doesn't reflect that belief at all.

Another aspect is the low self esteem and paranoia developed because of this subtle or not so subtle negative bias/portrayal you experiance. It causes people to project it onto people and situations where race isn't a factor against them.

Yeah again, dismissing it to just online minority doesn't really cut it for me either. These same English man didn't have this energy for Kane when he missed against France even if it's just trolling.

I don't blame top players playing for England/France/European giants as the African and Caribbean NTs aren't as organised and have a fair bit of corruption in some cases (Eto'o). Plus it just does so much for your career.

But yeah I'd never play for England personally.

I'm not saying the problem doesn't exist or has become trivial mate. Just keeping it in historical perspective. That's why I brought up social media, because it distorts the perspective, not because these people only exist on social media.

Hopefully with African teams getting more places at future World Cups they can attract more eligible players.

Real hard sell when only four teams qualify.

I’m convinced AFCON can potentially impact your career as well (disrupt a season or cost you a once in a lifetime move).

The major internationals revolve around the European leagues.

The biggest challenge is the corruption in the federations. I've read many Nigerians complain about how corrupt their federation is, for example. Institutional problems and infrastructural problems hold those countries back immensely.

Hmmm the sentiment around brexit vote at the time and the numbers reform uk got in the recent election makes me very hesitant to palm it off to other countries.

UK is more tolerant than most but there are still things that aren't what they should be.

No doubt.

They investigated and found that from the 200+ cases that were deemed criminal, a good 170 odd were from overseas places like Saudi Arabia and India. Some Saudi guy even came out and apologised for monkey emojis sent to Saka.

That’s interesting because those videos I posted of Saka, Sancho and Rashford getting ridiculed (which Harry Kane avoided) didn’t look like Saudi or India to me.

Furthermore I was unaware Saudi Arabia and India were able to vote in the brexit reform and most recent polls. Yeah I guess the majority of the issue is elsewhere.

Lmao, bruh, do you know that someone can provide more information to a topic without necessarily taking a counter position?

Last time I checked 200-170 = 30, so that means 30 odd criminal cases were from England, so racism absolutely exists in England (who would even argue the opposite?).

I'm just pointing out that surprisingly a lot of the racism in the post-Euro 2021 aftermath was actually from abroad. Doesn't mean there wasn't any in England.

Tbf, a lot of the ‘Peckham reds’ fans I know all gave the same abuse to Saka. They still post about Saka to this day on their instagram stories.

For a British adult of African or Caribbean descent not to be aware that they have a different ancestral background than "white Brits" or that the country has a colonialist past they'd have to be imbeciles. I mean the word in its literal sense, they'd have to have an intellectual disability of some sort. Or maybe they'd have to live in isolation in some remote forest in the UK. It's not some sophisticated info that you have to research.

So yeah, it's not about ignorance at all. It's about your perspective on the English or British national identity and approach to the post-colonial era.

Your taking it too deep and misunderstood me

Sala's Instagram is just full of racial abuse today
I'm sick of this sh1t
In England, you can encounter subtle or overt racism in a hundred ways. You might be followed around a shop, not get the promotion or payrise you deserve, refused entry into a nightclub, or cop some racial abuse for just doing your job properly in the service industry. Yes, things are better than back when fans would throw bananas at John Barnes but there is still a long way to go - the systemic stuff is deeply embedded.

That insta stuff is predominantly from new accounts based out of the UK. Most likely sockpuppet/foreign agitators. I wouldn't waste a moment thinking about it.

Might take some heat here but are these chants inherently racist?

The 3 players that missed penalties happened to be black and those are videos of rivals fans throwing **** at the players. In this context, is it really different than this?:

FcVnCfG.png

Before anyone jumps on me, you can look at my posting history and see I'm deeply aware of the problem - **** like Foden being praised for buying a house for his mom but Bobb being slaughtered for the same thing is blatant - but I feel like if we start labeling any abuse as racism, the discussion gets a bit muddled.

Yes.

As for the Beckham thing, whilst it’s not called racism it was still irrational hate and disgusting.

I mean of course it's irrational and disgusting, it's football chants. We laugh as people chant the most heinous ****.

But why are those chants inherently racist? They missed penalties in a final. I think the chants are stupid as **** but I really struggle to see how they're racist.
