What a huge difference from 10 years ago when Wenger used to get criticized for the foreign legion and not signing local players. He always said he wanted to sign British players but they were either not available ,too expensive or not good enough. With these kids and the big name signings we have made there is something special brewing here. Best man for the job can't imagine life without him and hopefully we won't have to find out for a good while yet.

Lambert (32) is roughly the same age as Jeffers (33). In terms of strikers, that generation isn't really something that would be capable of clinching the title. Other "prestigious" members of that generation would be Bobby Zamora and Peter Crouch.

He's not a bad looking lad either......

Anyways enough of that  Welcome to Arsenal Cal, no doubt we've a future world star on our hands.

We're the best looking team in the Prem by far. Our Spanish players have let us down a little bit though, but Arteta makes up for Santi and Monreal

Guardian says a couple of new things on their article about the transfer.

He's been promised 20 games this year including cup competitions so obviously Wenger will use him much more than Jenko.

Also AW sees his long term future at CM, could be total paper bs speculation but the Guardian along with the bbc is usually reputable.

Woot? Santi has the most likable face in football, we should sell his picture as a cure for depression. He always makes me smile :)

Welcome Calum! Great addition to our english core

Great signing imo versatile, young and very promising. Excited by this one as we have the clout to push the boat out for real promising talent (not like wheb Hazard etc slipped away) and with all the players who are young and promising if we have gone for him it can only mean good things

Great signing, hopefully will be a big player for us in the future. Welcome to Arsenal Calum!

The increasing British contingent can only be a good thing IMO. Most successful sides have a native core and IMO it helps with the leadership / fighting spirit elements which we've been lacking for a long while since Adams, Dixon, Parlour, Keown et al retired.

The fact that they are all likeable, humble and hard-working players and are surrounded by some of the true gents of the league makes us truly blessed and any signing should feel right at home. Can't see a bad apple in the entire squad, which is far away from the egos that polluted the dressing room in years past. No wonder we failed when it mattered most with the likes of Gallas, Arshavin, Nasri and Adebayor in the team.

Welcome to Arsenal Chambers :bounce

Geoff mentioned we'd sign a young English defender a couple of weeks back, heh...

Welcome chambers, love how enthusiastic he seems! Wenger sees something and hopefully we all see it soon too.

Fee seems to be £12M rising to £16m. When you consider we signed Ox for the same fee three years ago and up to that point he had only been a League One player, the fee doesn't seem so absurd.

Welcome Calum. Really buzzing over this signing, rebalances the domestic core vs. German stars and also youth with experience, particularly for our defensive line. In truth our pipeline of defenders needed attention with Miquel already 21 and not progressing enough (maybe close to the exit door now), Ajayi not really coming on (needs to work on things such as positioning), Hayden looking promising but still some way to go and maybe more so as CDM, and then Pleguezuelo who is only 17.
