Wasn’t too impressed with Julianne but it’s early days for the boy so obviously won’t linger on it
His problem is he doesn't have top level physicality, and despite his good technical ability, its not at the level to make up for it. He's good enough to have a pro career and maybe work his way up the leagues, but he's not going to make it here without an amazing developmental leap. No shame in that, and whatever his endgame, minutes like this will do him good.

Really enjoyed the game and the performance. Bar the Gyok thing, almost a perfect game all in, in terms of team selection, subs, & performances.

Smaller teams as in Ipswich’s B team who are the equivalent of a Championship side? Or Napoli who are in really poor form?

Last night was the perfect opportunity for him against such a bang average team yet he still didn’t eat. I’m not really sure where people assume he’ll build his “confidence”. Sure, he’ll get another opportunity in the Carabao Cup in a month or so which is a long time from now however when Arteta is done with you, there’s pretty much no coming back from that unless we’re forced into it by an injury. Merino in the 9 is a better fit for our system anyways.
How many people said Ødegaard is **** and we should sell him. Sometimes good players are not playing that well. Sometime even for a bit longer. But there are many reasons, such as injuries, form, confidence, system, bad luck …

So telling Gyokeres can't play anymore because he hasn't played so well in 150min is bullshit.

And I am not a fan of Gyokeres and think we should part ways sooner than later. But he still can help the team until he's sold.

That’s just one example, how about Gabriel Martinelli? Ramsdale? And others over the years? Examples can be used on either side, those who had reservations about Nelli back in 2022 through to 2026 when most on here were acting like there weren’t any deficiencies aren’t on here thumping their chests, are they?

Also that’s not to say they didn’t have their use however clearly Arteta rates Ødegaard and has trusted him over the years after all he’s been the captain for large spell of Arteta’s stint at the club and the system has pretty much been built for him to prosper, so comparing him with Gyokeres is a bit of a non starter.

Yes of course but your answer was based on 150 Minutes...

It’s not though. Ødegaard was playing as the best midfielder in the PL 2022-2024. And he slumped 2024-2025 after injury. He showed he had the talent to run the PL.

Gyokeres was always reaching to be Arsenal quality. He’s never passed the eye test, but he worked extremely hard last season to make an impact. He did just enough last season, but it never looked comfortable or graceful. So to see him regress this season and especially show a lack of mentality is concerning, but not surprising. It’s not just the 150minutes… he wasn’t completely convincing all last year either. It never looked comfortable. Many games weren’t about his excellent play last season, it was more about his determination and industry to be a handful for CBs. It always looked like he was working to the top of his ability to have a quiet impact. This season he looks less determined and potentially at his comfortable level. Can Arteta get more from him? Hopefully. But it’s a huge psychological blow for him to not be our starting striker and, from a fan’s perspective, his skill level doesn’t seem to warrant that position either. Hopefully he can get over it and still play out of his skin for us.
