Willian was wanted by Arteta though.

And he also signed off Mari and Cedric because he said he needed specialists, but there are also reports of him overriding Edu on Neto over Ramsdale, pushing for White, etc., so I'm more inclined to trust him more than Edu as things stands.

Close to 100k for Cedric + a signing on fee is just bad business.

Before I forget, yeah, all them said something about Winning the CL in three seasons and all that.

Glad we saw those signings as mistakes and course corrected.

At least with Willian we got surprisingly lucky he decided to leave and cancel his contract.

Mari and Cedric are here until their deals end.

Very hard to say who's responsible for which signing, most of the time it seems like Edu just does Arteta's bidding, trigger this clause, buy this guy etc. Our sales also look like it's just the manager discarding who he doesn't want with barely any input from "above".

If it is like that Arteta deserves all credit and criticism, and Edu should probably be replaced with ChatGPT.

Monza have an obligation to buy Mari if they stay up. Arsenal will get their money back from him if that happens. Monza is 10 points above the relegation line at half way of the season.

Regarding on the overall issue of Cedric, he had 6 months in contract, so they likely had to pay him more, as the transfer/loan fee was only about 3 million, and this was an EPL proven player. Mari wages were worse in my opinion, as this was an unproven player from Brazil.

People never seem to understand that players who are free agents (or contract ending like Cedric or Nketiah), like Kolasinac was, will always get bigger wages, but the player will still be much cheaper than buying someone with a normal transfer fee. They will keep on being shocked about the wages until the player is gone.

The horror of Mari, Cedric and Runarsson will cost like maybe 4 million for the club depending on if Monza stay up. And people lose their minds over that business which was done when FFP was a big issue. Willian might have cost 5-10 million maybe as a signing fee? And at 34,5 years old he is still playing a lot and performing for 7th place Fulham.

I think both of them should receive praise and critiscm where it's due.

Even if it paying the asking fee, it's good that at least we have someone in the room pushing for signings we really want for the team to be completed or even backing out from signing a plan b like Douglas Luiz because Villa wanted more than our valuation of the player.

Saka, Saliba and Martinelli are tough tests for Edu, as their new wages is what will dictate what we pay anyone else.

Sure, Saka is the best right winger in the PL right know, but Saliba and Martinelli, while really talented, shouldn't be really.closento Bukayo wage wise.

Sales are also a problem, but at least now we have an overall team from which to extract fees, Cedric and Mari not withstanding.

Lastly, I don't think Edu is that big of a presence that chatgpt couldn't really pull doing his job.

The only real issue is if GPT was trained with Boehly's strategies...

We loaned him from Southampton first 😭 and then insisted he stayed.
I worry about Edu+Mikel when they go back to 'win now' mode cos some of the stuff they pulled was atrocious.

Luckily we should have access to better players by then.

I think trossard augurs well for them.

Why the **** was he on 100k please 🤣
He was signed as a free agent, and free agents always get bigger wages than normal transfers. His wage went up from 65k per week to 100k per week, and he cost Arsenal like 3 million as transfer fees for the loan.

35k increase in wages for 4 years, makes like 6,7 million. So Arsenal paid in total like 10 million "transfer fee" for EPL proven 28 year-old Cedric with 65k per week wages. Remember that this was a January loan originally, so the fee is bound to be a bit higher than summer window.

I'd say Cedric would have been maybe 10-15 million player at that point with a longer contract, so the business was okay when FFP was limiting Arsenal more.

Arsenal Quotes

I'm prepared to be committed to the club at least until we go into the new stadium. For me, it’s important that the club goes in there and that I make sure the team are at a very good level. After that, whether it’s me or someone else, the club will be able to compete at the highest level. But for me to run away now would not be fair.
