Chelsea FC: Not Too Xabi

He took possibly the best available job in Euprope atm. What did you expect him to do? Sit around for Slot. He’s already been sitting around for 6 months.

Chelsea vs Liverpool was a 2 year rivalry in English football, it’s only Carragher who hypes it up.

Not join Chelsea?

I can see the frustration from his side and with the Liverpool fans. He can't wait for Slot to go, but there are (and will be) better options.

If a manager can wait six months, they can wait a few more weeks for the busiest period of managerial changes.

But why not join Chelsea? He has no rivalry with them? He hasn’t crossed any lines. Even Rafa went to Everton after winning the European Cup with Liverpool.

George Graham left Arsenal and went to Sp**s a few years later.

Chelsea is going to be the biggest job in Europe. Elite managers aren’t going to Italy, France etc, they are all coming to English clubs.

Rafa was hounded out of Everton and Chelsea

Graham should of stayed at Leeds. Sp**s sacked him because he complained about the transfer budget

There aren’t many bigger jobs than Chelsea you’re probably only looking at the 10 clubs in the world in terms of revenue as options worth looking at for an ambitious and highly rated young manager. He’s going to be very well paid and they are still a big club with plenty of resources. It’s not a bad job at all they have a big pool of talent to choose from and he could with a few signings turn them into challengers. Plus did I mention that’s he going to very well paid?

I think this is thier best appointment since they took over. If they let him do his job they might comeback competing after a season with some experience and good investment also next season they'll likely have same utd season about 40 games or more so all focus is in league so you expect they should have good season

Could be but Xabi Alonso is pretty overrated at the moment and while PL is a beast of a league Chelsea FC is cesspit of dumb ****s. So he will have his hands full.

looks like Chelsea have a good manager now.

Now will they stop treating players like financial instruments and actually let their manager build something?

James, Fernandez, Caicedo, Palmer, JP, Estevao and Cucurella is a solid core of top4 level talent.
It is still an investment group. Their core objectives is still to make profit above trophies. As long as they quality for CL and increase value of players and Chelsea, the higher ups are happy. It is just Brighton on steroïds run by cowboys instead of nerds.

Since taking over in May 2022 they have spent 1.5b on transfers. They might be a proper mess but you can’t say they haven’t spent money. They also sell well (partly thanks for us) and with the accounting trickery they indulge in like selling assets to related companies to balance the books there should be more money to spend.

Emery was hounded out of Arsenal, you live and die by results.

My main point is that there is no reason why a guy from Spain with no traditional rivalry to Chelsea should reject that job.

Potch went to Chelsea, that’s a massive rivalry line he crossed.

It's different, Rafa was wanted out from the start. I'm not sure I quite get that rivalry

Alonso should be fine though.

It's mad to me that a couple more million offered and Alonso would be managing us right now and be an Arsenal legend probably with a PL title or two for us. Arteta never would have joined us

I think there was 2 years where Liverpool and Chelsea played each other in massive games, CL semi finals etc, and they were fiery games etc, think it was Benitez vs Mourinho too. That’s the rivalry.

The way this club always fails upwards is truly astonishing. Can only hope that all their finacial recklessness of the last few years finally come home to roost in next 2 years.

Difficult to predict what going to happen in football that the beauty of it if let's say we sacked Arteta in 2021 we might have been in worse position and would be lucky to even get top 4 Arteta might not be consistent trophy manager but the guy turn this club around. Xabi now you can say in similar position at Chelsea first thing he need to do is to change club culture to build very consistent team

Lets to pretend they were doing the best for the club. The agreement when taking over Chelsea was to spend 1.5b to improve the club. Using accounting loopholes by giving out 8y contracts and for example sell/buy woman club etc. They turn the club into a lawyer runned entity instead to let it grow organically.
