According to Rui Costa as soon as Chelsea came in Enzo was adamant he wanted to leave. Fair enough. But then why did he give it the big ‘un with that ‘I’m staying’ celebration in their game?

Question his character a bit there, it’s fine to want to leave but then don’t pretend on the pitch that you’re staying.

He probably wanted a better contract.

From a Benfica fan (translation):

In the first contact with Chelsea, they made it clear to Benfica that they wanted to pay the transfer fee.

Accordingly, they contacted Benfica and Enzo's advisor.

After they had also come to an agreement with the player and his advisor, they suddenly
and his advisor, they suddenly wanted to renegotiate with Benfica and were not
and was no longer prepared to pay the AK, but only 85 million.

Benfica and Rui Costa understandably turned down Chelsea and let the deal fall through.

However, Enzo was so lulled by all the promises made by Chelsea that he
that he skipped 2 training sessions and flew to Argentina.

Afterwards, they were able to calm things down a bit, solved the problems with Enzo and the latter was able to leave.

Enzo agreed to this and the issue calmed down again for weeks.

2 days before the transfer deadline, Chelsea contacted Benfica again and wanted to renegotiate.

Now Chelsea is prepared to pay the amount of the AK, i.e. 120 million, but in instalments within 5 years.

Chelsea even went so far as to offer, over 130 million to get Benfica to agree
for the payment in instalments.

Benfica, or rather Rui Costa, of course refused, as they made it clear from the outset that only Chelsea would accept the offer.

Enzo was very stubborn and was not prepared to talk.

At that point, it was already 31 January, i.e. 1 day after Chelsea contacted Benfica again regarding Enzo.

From then on, Rui Costa wrote Enzo off completely.

Considering it feels like they have spent £1 billion this season...you would imagine their squad would be winning the league every year, tbh.

But instead it looks more like one of our squads from the 2010s (with more players obviously) that Top Four looks like it's max.

Added to the fact they have Potter in charge, instead of prime Mourinho or Ancelotti... it's really not looking that good brev.

Soon or now past it: Azpi, Auba, Silva and I'd say even Koulibaly because has been bad mostly already.

Injury-prone: Kante, James, Chilwell, Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Fofana? Broja also just had a bad injury.

Goalies are not good enough for a top team? Felix and Zakaria are loans.

Then there is the question which of those other players are even good enough in the long run.

That's 26 players and 3 GK's btw.

Somehow that really doesn't impress me much.

There’s a genuine chance they don’t make top4 next season. Would be an absolute disaster for Todd.

This boffhead Don Quixote and his Persian Sancho Panza spent 600 million on players but didn’t buy a striker. Every striker they will want will cost them more than any other club. Why because they know Boehly will pay tons for crap players with little to no track record

Arsenal possibly winning the league, that **** club Chelsea missing out of Top Four and maybe even getting thrown into financial ruin.

Book mark it @albakos , this could well be the best season in Arsenal's history 😍

They going belly up for sure. He bought 600 million of unproven crap that a good number will be flops Chelsea will be paying for years. And their front line is Auba, Murdyk, and Felix. Two players thrown away by their club and a 3rd player who has 12 top flight goals. This team is not getting CL. Cfc has one more window like this won’t be in Pl in a few years. Watch as people begin pilfering the players he now has to sell off at massive loss. So the other clubs will get stronger on the cheap off of Boehly’s spending. This team will be a disaster for all that money their frontline is not a top 4 frontline.

All that money spent and their best attacker is Felix, who is on loan ffs!

If Felix so great why can’t he play for Atleti? I think there is a con. These buys have nothing to do with improving Chelsea or addressing their weaknesses. How could they if after 600 million that is your striker and that is your frontline? If my club spends 600 million transfers i should have a frontline of Haaland and Mbappe. Not washouts and a bad Ukranian amateur gangsta rapper

I don't understand the longterm goal for all the deadweight.

Surely they take a drastic hit on transfers...

Chelsea are usually quite good at selling, be interesting to see what will happen with their dusty players this summer

Fire sale no choice unless you want to pay people millions to sit in stands and watch. We should look to strengthen our bench at their expense. They will be over the barrel this summer with no choice but to sell or just to pay a bunch of disgruntled multimillionaires to watch football at home

I see both Klopp and Pep took a pop at Chelsea today, albeit from different perspectives.

Pep being mindful of City’s own spending spree which he sought to downplay somewhat with lies, damn lids and statistics. He forgets that City are in no small part responsible for overheating the market by buying then selling multiple players at high value/wages And manipulating FFP, just in a different way to Chelsea. He just wants Chelsea to take the same heat as City.

Klopp at least is one of “us” and talk about Pools success through organic growth. He clearly thinks both Chelsea and City are crooks...

I’m surprised how behind they are in the media department. No club interviews on new signings
