Like others, maybe not fair to judge him in a fully unsync team. He's a decent player as back up.

Nothing wrong with this guy.

It's his first full start and 90 mins isn't it? Perfectly serviceable protecting the back four.

Easily upgradable next season for guy at his age will be difficult to adapt with our style of play he spent all his career as DM at deep block clubs.

He could be useful at some games but with Zubi and Rice fitness level he'll just play handful of games so we can't complain much.

Also someone like him is great to have in dressing room he very good leader

He's a spot duty player so I have no issues with him. Ethan gave the ball away like free candy in the first half so there was quite a bit of scrambling defensively. I mean if he's regularly starting PL games because Zubi and Rice are injured then yeah I'm going to panic.

He should be used as a spot duty striker, he's really good in the air. If Merino can do it so could this guy, especially when you have a crosser like Rice. Don't rate him as a midfielder (similar issues as Merino).

Feels like we always have to make room for a serviceable holding midfielder who’s only job is to stand in the right spaces and give and receive the ball. Very underwhelmed by him,

I don't know why people is underwhelmed. He is exactly what I expected.

But I don't think he will play any meaningful games outside of Carabao. So not much impact to us. If everyone is fit he will barely make any match day squads anyway

Everything feels a bit slow with him. The decision-making, the passing, dribbling, speed, etc.

I mean, the simple answer is you have lower expectations than the people who are underwhelmed by him.

You can tell he’s used to playing in a team with a low block. And for me he is too passive. He was dropping far too deep and the distances between him and Eze/Nwaneri in midfield left acres of space for Brighton to exploit us in transitions. Not only his fault and he needs to adapt but he isn’t going to reinvent himself at 32.

Every competitive game until we win silverware is meaningful, and he’s basically next in line after Zubi for the #6 so It’s a realistic possibility he could start in a CL knockout game.

That's if you look at it on paper. In reality he will not be starting any important games. We would play Rice, Merino, or even shift MLS there before we consider Nørgaard. He is a non-factor.

It's like us saying Nwaneri is next in line as a backup for Ødegaard on paper, but in reality, we shift the jigsaws and he is not starting games.

He looks worse than he is because he’s a downgrade from Jorginho who was an incredible rotation option.

Nørgaard is fine for the role he has.

He doesn't get many minutes so what we saw last night was more ring rust to me.

What you've got to accept is Arteta wants an avatar of himself in the playing squad. It was Jorgi before, now it's Nørgaard.

Solid pro, older head, good example for the younger players in terms of attitude / training.

He's here as much for squad dynamics as anything else.

Looked rusty to me. Probably needs more minutes in unimportant or lower quality opposition matches to get up to speed.

Agreed.

I just feel we have enough of those now across the team with Rice, Gabriel, Ødegaard etc to not need babysitter/Elneny type role model. This is not even so much criticism of Nørgaard but the role itself. We have about 5 elite left sided defenders but only two real world class CMs in Rice and Zubi.

The drop off in quality when neither of those two are playing is significant.

Decent player but not sure why (a) he'd want to join us and sit on the bench and (b) we'd want him as MLS should be getting minutes in the midfield.

a) he gets to play for a big club b) we get to have elite depth.

Seems pretty logical for all concerned

Arsenal Quotes

Arsène Wenger's idea is not only to play good football. It's to play good football to win. In my day, we knew that with our style we could hurt teams and win trophies too. But we did it our way, with the positional game, passing, movement.
