Ah okay!

For me he has shown over his career he doesn't really have what it takes to be a good striker and i really don't see it changeing either! He has like 1 season or something with more than 10 goals. Giroud has like 10 and a few of those are over 20.
Welbeck, whilke frustrating when leading the line, is more than a squad player. He is a unique option crucial in certain games and useless in others. We weren't going to win that FA cup without his goal. His pressing, energy and determination are virtually unrivaled in this league.
Not a player you want to rely on but when the competition is right he's certainly a very tactical and astute player to have on the field.

We have a smart manager who realises this but I feel he may be off to make way for a proper winger.

Welbeck is a bit like Rosicky in his later years. He drives the team forward and ups the tempo but there's little end product. Smith Rowe with experience and consistency can do his job eventually. As can Nelson and Nketiah. His injuries mean we can't rely on him and we've had too many players like that recently. Get well soon Danny boy and good luck.

Isn't that what makes a squad player ? Only use him when needed, or as a specialist in a way? I think its different from being a backup like lichtensteiner at least. I agree with your other points though, very valuable player but as i rate a footballer i would not rate him "very highly" not even close.

Yeah I suppose I am over complicating it. He's a very useful squadie.

This. A Lot of people are frustrated that guys like Nketiah, Nelson and Smith-Rowe don't get minutes. But it's guys like Danny that have to make way if we want to get those minutes to our youngsters. Now is the right time since his contract runs out anyway. Nothing against the guy, wish him well, and he did his part when called upon but not needed anymore.

I’m not sure how long you’re supposed be out with the kind of injury Danny suffered but this kind of progress feels a bit quicker than expected.

I’m far from his biggest fan but I hope we get to see him play for us again before the end of the season. I thought he had his best season so far at arsenal up until his injury. A fit Danny would definitely be a good injection at the end of the season.

It should be fairly obvious to people that Danny's style of play is EXACTLY what Emery wants from a player. He may not necessarily be a starter in all league games but he is certainly a big game player now and a key member of the squad when fit.
I'm surprised the same hasn't come for Aaron Ramsey. These two players were probably huge drawing points for Emery when he applied. They work hard and never seem to run out of steam.

I believe they will offer Welbeck a new contract but other English clubs will offer him a nice contract.

It will be up to Danny what he wants to do. With us, he will be a good option on the bench, on another team, he probably will start and earn more...

People love to assume young players can do the job of seasoned veterans of the league. None of the young players you named can do the job Welbeck does, let's not overrated them now.

I agree with you but she did say 'eventually'.

But then I agree with this

Definitely. I think Danny is a dream to have in your team. Gets along well with anyone. Clearly has a sense of humour. But when you need someone to run their lungs into submission, danny is your man!

I did say "eventually" -:when they've matured physically and in experience. They all have energy to press and no real pressure to replace goals. They should be ready for 30 occasional minutes now tbh.

It's the right decision decent player but backup at best we need to clear more wages. So we clearing 12M pounds of wages after losing ramsey Welbeck for free and cech retirement

This is all well and good but how much is Welbeck on now? How much will he want for this new contract which will be his last major one?

I don't want us sinking 120k+ wages into a squad player who will be 29 this year coming off of a season ending injury and has a history of knee injuries.

It would be awful management of our finances at a time where we don't have any room for error. Not a chance we should give him a contract. It would be exactly the sort of move the old regime would have been slaughtered for.

What if we give him a new deal and his knee issues plague him for the rest of his career? Nah, get someone else in to do Welbeck's job. Which is to ya know, score goals.

I never thought I would see the day that Arsenal fans were clamoring over a defensive winger. Iwobi tracks back and also manages to be useful at the end of the pitch where he's supposed to be useful

People forget Welbeck didn't do his job, which was to score goals, and that was before he'd been struck down with two serious injuries. Defenders don't get a pass for being crap at defending, keepers don't get excused for being **** at keeping--not being able to clear the halfway line is usually enough to get them sold on here. So strange how Welbeck has managed to keep people on side. Not his fault, but to want him to remain here?
