Juve didn't sell him to us though. Plus he looked good his last season at Juve. Turned the game against Sp**s around.

Lichtsteiner was nothing more than a bit part player at Juve before he came to us. It was clear he was past it. Apart from maybe being a useful sub now and then.

Luiz wasn't a cast off like Lichsteiner. He played 36 pl games for Chelsea last season. Only after we came in and he started to threaten to go on strike did Chelsea let him go.

We didn't get Lichsteiner as a first teamer though did we?

Either way @GDeep™ is simply making the point @Makingtrax has consistently made here. That is, we went cheapskate on defenders, we always have, and we're paying for it dearly now.

To be fair to Luiz, which isn’t something that comes easy, our CB positions seem cursed. I think prime Tony Adams would look clueless in some if these teams we’ve seen over the last 10 years. No excuse for the madness we’ve seen of him recently though. Trying to play the universe offside on his own with his back turned was pure comedy.

Yeah buying cheap mediocre players has really hamstrung us and in the long run cost us a fortune for many years now.

Lichsteiner was one of those players. Getting a 34 yr old fullback, a position which is the most demanding on the pitch as you are expected to run up and down the pitch all day. While he wasn't even a regular in a far slower league. It didn't even make sense at the time, except to save a few quid as he was on a free.

Luiz made sense. Kos screwed us over so we had only a few days before the window shut to replace him. Either that or get no replacement for him.

To try to bring in a defender from a rival who finished higher than us, as a short term deal, made sense. It wasn't ideal but at least that made sense. Lichsteiner deal made no sense whichever way you looked at it.

A pity he got injured today. For 10-15 minutes he looked a decent temporary answer to the lack of spine in midfield we've had all season.

Catastrophe. Wastefull in possesion and couldnt win a duel to save his life. Deeply involved in the oppositions goals every week

Is he that bad? If so then Emery deserved to be sacked for making him our indispensable player; first name on the team sheet. So should Ljunberg.
He plays like he is in training. An absolute disgrace that he is our centre back summer signing considering how much we needed a good CB.

Emery Gone, Telly Back On
That was a superb header. The problem lies before that, how easily Brighton got to cross.

I think he could be better used in the DM position, he is good enough on the ball and can defend enough there, could be a better option than Xhaca or Torreira, would be a try at least.

Doesn't track his men, isn't aware of who's around him, steps up when he should stay put and stays put when he should close down.

Not on Ljungberg at all. Wtf is he supposed to do?

Whoever oversaw the Luiz signing coupled with agreeing to let Saliba stay at Saint Etienne when we ****ing need him, that guy should lose his job

Yeah it's been well known for years how much of a fraud Luiz is in terms of being a defender.
