For the start of the new season, Arsenal Mania has relaunched the news side of the site. All articles are written by genuine Arsenal fans with no hidden agenda. You can visit the site via the menu at the top of the forum pages or go direct to our homepage

Additionally, Arsenal Mania is now sending all its registered members a bi-weekly Briefing Bulletin containing a digest of news and views from both parts of the site. Some of you may have already received the first edition and those that haven't should do so before the big kick off against United. If you are a guest visitor to this forum then if you join as a member, you will automatically receive the Bulletin.

Please support both these initiatives and help ensure the long term future of our site.

David Raya: Raya Con Dios

He's become a bit of a double edged sword. His distribution of the ball has been downright awful. Wasn't that supposed to be his biggest strength and a major reason why we bought him in the first place?
Instead it's his reaction saves that seem to be his standout trait now.

Caña is a disgrace in that regard, remember us being impressed with Ramsdale distribution at first and suddenly it became awful too.

Can't get mad at Raya for being short or whatever when it feels like this season he saved us 7+ points, which is the difference between 2nd and 7th right now

Maybe if we didn’t use our keeper 50 times a game for back pass it wouldn’t be a problem. Slightest pressure we go back to keeper. No keeper will get it right as many times we asking him to do. They are keepers after all

Oh no, our poor keeper being expected to do the basics of the modern game. What excuses will you come up with for 2026?

I think his bad distribution has only come in the past few weeks. Before that mistakes were rare and he's rightly being talked about as a dark horse for our player of the season.
He's essentially our deepest playmaker at times; long quick throws out to the wing, accurate balls to Kai/M9 etc.

Can't really say I've noticed consistent mistakes week in, week out.

There’s very few keepers in world football that could play in our system.
Guys like Courtois and Donnarumma ( as excellent as they are, for example) wouldn’t work in our system, or be able to play the way Raya has been instructed to.

Going for 2nd golden gloves in a row. Joint with Sels at the moment so hopefully Forest concede.

Was on Vinai's payroll; misses 4th place trophy 🏆
Turn out Inaki knows his stuff despite we hate him he wanted Joan Garcia and he wasn't wrong. Raya also despite being short for Gk but winning back to back golden gloves is impressive imo.

hopefully his next recommendation don't cost us 30M

He's a good goalkeeper, despite what some on here think. That save vs. Villa away, when the ball hit the bar and Watkins had a free header, he went for it like a maniac and saved it. Many wouldn't be able to get up so quickly. He saved two penalties when it mattered in the CL vs. Porto, and don't forget that amazing double save vs. Atalanta. Or a few weeks ago at Old Trafford. Also crucial in certain moments, which one tends to forget, like when Mbappe was through at 0-0 in the quarter finals of the CL. Not a memorable save, but it was needed very much.

He can be improved upon, his kicking wasn't very good lately, but he's a fresh of breath air compared to Ramsdale who rather watches pidgeons than actually catch a ball.

Spending $ 100m on Raya and Havertz just to look for replacements for both in 2 seasons is shocking.

Team building like we're Chelsea but with half the resources, that's why we're always left out in the cold for 2-3 positions.

We wanted Joan Garcia for a reason. Would've considered a cheeky Donnarumma bid in the future if he didn’t want insane wages

Arsenal Quotes

When I arrived, an Arsenal share was worth £800; it subsequently rose continuously in value and by the time I left it stood at £17,000.
