David Raya: Raya Con Dios

Hands down the best in the world.
I remember when Lehman got the red card in the finals and Almunia came as a substitute and both the barcelona goals went between his legs.Even though Eto,s goal was offside. We were never gonna win that match anyways because barcelona had been paying the referee association for 10 years already. This time in the champions league final we ll have David Raya and no more nightmares of Almunia. If we do the double and Raya wins the world cup with Spain then he could get the Ballon dor and win it like Oliver kahn.
We will have Kepa coming in if Raya gets sent off like Lehmann did, though.

I will see that save for every in my head if we win the PL win.

It saved us the whole season. If we would be behind, i don't see us coming back from that. That defines a world class goalie - you don't need to make many saves, but you have to be there for that one save.

So, where do we reckon he ranks in the annals of Arsenal history? For me, he's certainly the best since we opened the Emirates.

Makes some bone-headed moves, but 3 Golden Gloves in a row isn't a fluke.

He's definitely better than Jens. I don't know that much about Arsenal GKs before Seaman other than Bob Wilson so can't say for sure there's not someone way back in our history with a claim but he's got to be no worse than top 3 or 4 in our history and climbing and there's not even a close 2nd post Emirates. I think when you factor in how good he is at the things that really have mattered historically with a GK and then add his kicking, he's got a real argument for being our best keeper ever or certainly the most talented.

Comfortably best since Seaman which is all I think 98% of the forum will be able to speak to. Not to disparage Jens at all but some of the clangers he came up with back in the day...in this current environment he'd get absolutely slaughtered. He played his part in possibly our best ever side and certainly had some "intangibles" as they'd say nowadays, but he had the benefit of playing with some of our best ever players.

Recency bias makes this a very difficult comparison. Obviously for what is expected from a modern day keeper Raya is levels above the rest. For pure goalkeeping ability like shot stopping, organizing the defence and command of the box it has to be Seaman for me although Raya isnt behind by much. I’d need to see Raya do it at this level for a few more seasons for him to take Seaman’s mantle.

I don't remember any keepers before David Seaman but he was absolutely immense between the sticks. I do think Raya's better than Mad Jens though, and everyone since.

I think he might be the most talented goalkeeper we’ve had. He has no weakness imo. People will try to convince you his height is a weakness but his agility more than makes up for a couple of inches (ask ur missus about that). Everyone knows about the reflexes, the kicking, the playing out, 1v1 prowess, but I think the thing that really takes him over the top for me is how commanding he is over his box in set pieces and crosses, even with his lower height. I look at how people talk about Donnaruma and how he’s 7’ or whatever but he still doesn’t have the command over his box that Raya does, nowhere near it

I think if we’re to have any success in the UCL final, he’ll be a huge reason why. Could see him having a massive game. He’s gonna be so important. The great equalizer

Arsenal Quotes

I often relive those 49 undefeated matches. I do believe in signs to a certain extent, and as I was born in 1949, I sometimes tell myself it was our destiny to lose the 50th. Those 49 matches are etched within me and within each player: it is something fundamental, a triumph born out of passion.
