I know but Ramsdale is one that I have to flag everytime. I remember trying to explain xGOT and how bad Ramsdale was at it to this place and being treated like some kind of madman.

I recently watched back the Ramsdale season highlights and was actually shocked how bad he was. People keep making excuses for him those days but the goals he conceded sometimes was shocking and some hollywood saves he made was actually initially due to bad position so those saves looked spectacular.

It's kinda mindblowing how good our defence is that made him actually looked half decent. Now he is back to his normal level where every club he played for suffered and got relegated (not a coincidence) and he is 4th choice lmao.

There's always an element of people wanting an English player to succeed at an English club. The media response to Raya coming in with objectively better metrics in basically every aspect of goalkeeping in spite of playing for a worse team with a worse defense that put him under more pressure was entirely down him no being a passionate English lad from up North and it was so obvious. Notice none of them have revisited it because Raya is so clearly 4-5 levels above him.

I thought he was serviceable and we had other pressing needs when we signed Raya and felt he was a marginal upgrade, but the difference quickly became quite stark and by the end of the season it had crystallized beyond doubt.

Inaki had to get it right eventually, and I can safely safe this makes up for Runnarson and parts of Ramsdale pashun merchantry.

I agree, I never rated him either. He was awful at claiming stuff in the box and on set pieces, shaky on the ball and had a calamity in him. Some of his shot stopping at times was good yes but that's not good enough for where we want to be.

He made some top saves and, at times, his distribution could be top quality, but he was a ****ing bomb scare on crosses - he unsettled everyone around him whenever the ball came into the box. Look at how much teams used to target us with that, as they knew it was an obvious weakness.
Like you said, he could be a calamity at times, but because he was an English lad, and a passion merchant, the media hyped him up.

Like you said, he could be a calamity at times, but because he was an English lad, and a passion merchant, the media hyped him up.

Also not sure if you remember but as he lost his confidence his distribution completely dropped off. Maybe it was a purple patch to start with and it was just regression to the mean but once he became a below average shot stopper who also had poor distribution his days were numbered.

Last I checked Raya was statistically a slightly above average shot stopper, not the best, but his distribution and command of his box is worth much much more.
