A director of a rival club told Mail Sport that Arsenal are victims of having historically vastly overpaid for players & held on to others for too long.He cited the then-club record £72m paid for Nicolas Pepe in 2019 & the £32m for Oleksandr Zinchenko as the two clear examples of paying way over the odds. The same director added that Reiss Nelson, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Thomas Partey, Ainsley Maitland-Niles & Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were all on a lengthy list of players he feels could have been sold much sooner at a far higher value.

So true.
Last name on that list is Martinelli, he should have been already sold.
If this is true that Arsenal had offer in June for him (£40m), this was missed opportunity.
His price will only go down, if we consider how he plays now.

Load of nonsense. Pepe had four other clubs ready to meet the 70m ask and Zinchenko was risky due to his injuries but not a bad fee for the level of player he showed at the time he could be. Not sure about that list of outgoings either when were we supposed to have sold Auba ffs.

Not always a fan of our transfers especially outgoings but I'm positive if this "director of a rival club" isn't made up by the Mail then he has a worse record.

I agree that to mention Zinchenko in this context is dumb, his price wasn't too high.
And he was very useful player in his first season in Arsenal.

But Arsenal has big problem with outgoings, they held on to some players for too long.

Holding onto players for too long yeah absolutely, but in what world was 32m for Zinchenko a vast overpayment lol. Total BS.

Yeah, as pointed out by others that bit about Zinchenko being an overpayment is total negationistic history based on how he looks now.

He was fresh off being a big contributor to City's title when we signed him. Basically the one who turned that Villa game around. If anything, we got him for less than we expected.

Pepe did also have suitors willing to pay the big bucks so we didn't pay over the odds really, but it was definitely an awful signing in hindsight. Considering the fact that we let him go on a free, probably the worst signing in our history pound-for-pound.

As far as sales go, yeah, we have a history of holding onto players for too long or undervaluing them. Auba is a terrible example though, he was a key player until that ultimate season where he really dropped off. Wouldn't make sense to sell him after that FA Cup run.

I don’t think £125m for Isak is a huge amount. Next summer we’ll definitely be chasing a LW, and with the rise in player prices, he’ll surely cost no less than £100m. And here we had a option who scores 20 league goals. Still, the biggest disappointment of the summer is that we didn’t sign Isak.

But still, the club had a phenomenal summer. We have great squad depth. 9/10 for the transfer window.
Isak is a player who will miss around 10 games per season on average. I don’t want another Tomiyasu-type player in the squad, someone you can’t rely on. Also think we never was in the race to sign him or that he was interested joining us, so it is useless to complain that we have missed out on him.

As for the LW, we have to see how it plays out with Eze.

A director of a rival club.. wonder who it is. Which of our rival who doens't over paid for players?

❌ Man City
❌ Man U
❌ Chelsea
❌ Liverpool
❌ Newcastle
❌ Sp**s

Those clubs ain’t got the right to say we overpaid players as their screw ups are worse than ours.

If Tomi only missed 10 games a season he’d still be at the club.

There’s rumours Omari Hutchinson agent is friends with Edu and he pushed the signing that’s club record. The manager don’t want him

Arsenal Quotes

The English codified the rules of football just as the French perfected wine. We don't often ask an English person to come over to make Bordeaux.
