Declan Rice: All Hands On Dec

It seems people like Scholes do not understand the presence Rice has and impact he brings to a midfield.

I see Rice as impactful as Kante, how he literally controls the space in midfield both in possession and out of possession. His ability to take so much pressure away from our more deep lying creative players, as well as help us recover from their risks is unbelievable.

Its disappointing that Scholes either cant or refuse to see this value. And worse yet, he'll be the first to praise Roy Keane's impact the very next sentence.
These Ex-United players are all biased. I don't rate their opinions at all, tbh.
I find Keane and his grumpiness and his ability to hold grudges for decades entertaining, but that's it.

I don't put any stock in the opinions of these pundits tbh. It's a shame they shape the popular narrative.

If they really cared about football beyond their own performances and achievements, they'd still be involved. Yet they've chosen to get paid handsomely to provide incredibly uninformed opinions that are taken as gospel by a lot of people.

The fact that some people quote these guys and make fun of Tifo (part of The Athletic now) in the same breath is astounding to me. The Tifo guys genuinely have 10x the ball knowledge. Seriously, watch this video. It's from the Tifo guys before he'd even kicked a ball for Arsenal, and it's basically 100% spot on even with hindsight:

At this point I can only assume the people that genuinely take these TV pundits seriously are the same people who believe Elon Musk is a genius.

They'd be managers if they knew anything about football, look at the difference when its actual managers in there with them.

Forward passes is a hilarious stat anyway as it includes dropping behind the CBs to pass it every so slightly forward to the other defenders. It's a complete nothing stat. It's objectively true while saying nothing at the same time.

He's 6th on FBRef for progressive passes which is still decent but he's literally 98 passes behind Rodri, 278 vs. 376.

Both Rodri and Ødegaard are in a league of their own when it comes to progressing the ball.

I think Deccy's passing quality is actually very good but he doesn't have the vision or quickness of thought on the half turn. I remember seeing a Scholes interview where he talked about youth coaches telling him to get his head up before receiving the ball to see where teammates were and then turn and release it to them as he received it. Can Rice learn that as a 24yo? Probably not

He was great, saw him take responsibility and drive when needed, some great tackles and nearly got a great goal.

Arsenal Quotes

The club changed so much, I changed with it and football has changed with us... But one thing never changes: the 90 minutes still belong to the player, 90 minutes during which he is king.
