Declan Rice: All Hands On Dec

Rice has got to put away important goals to be considered a good fit for the team especially since he is deployed as an 8. That miss vs Brighton is a classic example.
He must find a way to convert those tight draws and loses to wins and draws respectively like Rodri and Stones do for City. Now that is how you warrant a 100m fee! Otherwise he's going to be questioned and as a result may become frustrated and potentially regress further.
I'd say this season is his best chance for him to redeem himself and show his mentality.

Partey being better than Rice, when he can be bothered to stay fit, isn't the slight on Rice that people think it is. Partey on song is one of the best in his position, better than Rice, but Rice is still amongst the best in the world in his position as well. This is a bit like having a go at Bergkamp for not being as good as Henry. It's the kind of dumb wumming **** a Tottenham fan would engage in.
Easier to say this now, after months of people going on like Partey is the worst 6 in the league and Rice is miles ahead of him. A lot of revisionism going on here.

Why does it take people so long to realise things I was saying a years ago?

Fabulous performance against Sporting. Still don’t think he’s a no.8. But I also think he’s lacking at no.6!

Not surprised at all our best football came with Rice on the pitch completing another 90mins while you know, Partey was getting back in touch with the physios table.

At this point I'm beginning to believe his outstretched arms pose, calling for the ball, is a decoy tactic by Arteta.

Weird comment. Rice was at 8.

Not a good time to compare the two, Partey is the better player so far this season.

I Know Who You Are
I do really like him as a player but there was one moment in the second half that summed him up pretty well for me. He drove forward and carried the ball through an emptying midfield like a Patrick Vieira or a Steven Gerrard, then with the defence massively stretched he had the opportunity to play Jesus clean through, it wasn’t even a difficult pass but he waited and waited, everything closed up and he ended up playing it left to Sterling, who was crowded out.
The annoying thing is it isn’t a technical thing, as you can see from his set pieces his ball striking is really good, also when he has the time to play any diagonal cross field ball.
I’m not sure whether it is a lack of confidence in playing tight passes and he’s worried about the consequence of losing it or he just doesn’t see pictures quick enough and everything ends up closing up, maybe both, but it is the one important flaw in his game.
It’s the reason, unless he improves it, I don’t think you can play him as a lone six. you watch players like Rodri, Kovacic, Busquets etc and they know where the ball is going before they’ve even received it.
I’m not entirely convinced he’s an eight either, I think his best position is in a double pivot with a deeper ball playing midfielder, similar to how England used to play him with Phillips.
People going on about how he wouldn’t have got in the team at City but he would have been alongside Rodri, not instead of him, think they would have been pretty ridiculous tbh.

Just because he's decent at ball striking doesn't mean he has the technical proficiency to make incisive passes. I like him, both as a player and person; buy we overpaid
