Declan Rice: Balon D’ec

Maybe

You're wrong, no?
Damn, in a team that can't play any football, our problem is the only DMC we have.

Rice needs to go back home and watch some of those Pirlo games from 15 years ago to become an ultimate machine that perfectly defends and does the playmaking for us.

Can't wait until Merino comes back and Rice can go back to playing as our #6. He doesn't quite offer enough going forward for me and no Ødegaard to pick up the creative slack is only going to make that worse. Not his fault but he isn't what we need from our #8 at the moment.
No no no, this guy is no number 6. He should be playing up in the pitch and just running, pressing and once he has the ball, just quickly give it to someone. Problem is, usually it is Ødegaard but now he is injured, we really don't have anyone ....

He fvcks you either being at the base slowly progressing or being further up killing you there. Play him deeper as when the ball finally leaves him he is less likely to kill you further up

He is a six and an eight.

The reason he plays both roles is because he can, and he is able to carry the ball up the pitch as well, which is problematic for man marking systems. This is why he cost 100m.

Once Merino comes in, there will be less onus on him to play the dual role. He can sit and choose him moments to push up, with a larger focus on what I think is his best trait... covering central space.

He did but the same set of weirdos who spent last season coping and seething at how he was worth every sterling despite their objections magnify every slight moment of imperfection in pursuit of someone on A-M who rates Rice telling them their nonsensical criticisms of him are valid. Of course it never happens but they keep trying.

I don't think its so much of "do you rate Rice" as "do you understand what a modern destroyer DM does". Lots of people think a modern destroyer DM type needs to also be a DLP, Rice has the skillset of a destroyer DM and a B2B which is why he functions so well next to a proper DLP like Jorginho...its not hard to understand but predictably many still fail.

Rice was one of the better players yesterday but the whole team was unremarkable.

I wish he would stop running out wide and try run through the midfield instead, nothing happens when he goes out there.

Still looks like a 6 playing as an 8. Got better as the game went on but I thought this was one of his most forgettable games, circumstances notwithstanding.

Arsenal Quotes

When you look at people who are successful, you will find that they aren’t the people who are motivated, but have consistency in their motivation.
