More like Arteta gave up on the other options at #8.
Go back 15 mo Thai don’t think the club would make this transfer. He isn’t what they expected and is trying to make the best of the situation.

Are you actually comparing Ben White standing up for his teammates with Rodri making things up to badmouth us and Haaland trying to injure our players twice in a match as well as throwing the ball at our players before mouthing off? There is a difference. You're not making a 1 to 1 comparison at all.
I agree, because I wasn’t. I’m talking about White’s antics in general and while the city players got rattled that’s exactly what makes a rivalry a rivalry.

And while it is pure speculation on my part, and you have the right to deny it. I know that if our guys did what they did, most on here wouldn’t have a problem. In fact I’ve seen multiple posts advocating for our players to do it so…
Plus it might stun you to know that there are people here who like our players more than players on other teams and therefore are more inclined to back our own players.
No problem with backing our own players but expecting nothing back from opposition is crazy.

Would like, but can't. This is a perfect example that people see what they want to see, if a guy annoys them or something similar.

I think Rice's hands moved only when he celebrated Nwaneri's goal.
I will go and find the exact timestamp for you when I get home from work.

If Rice is inclined to be nice I would much rather him be himself then a fake hardman snarling at opposition to impress Arsenal-Mania.

A lot of these guys have known each other for years and it's their job it's not always that deep for them. I personally liked that he drew a line under the 2nd yellow he got as well, that stuff is boring and it's not like he's going to do it again.

A__G posted the video already.

This is what you said. I have to assume your comeback is that Rice running means he is "wildly waving his arms".
I didn't get to watch the game closely but in the highlights I saw him wildly waving his arms for a pass right before Nwaneri scored. This guy annoys me so much.

He is definitely not better 6 than Caicedo. Arteta has given up on using him as 6. I can see Merino playing 6 as Rice is just too poor in the ball

Rice was amazing both in the 6 and 8th. Our most consistent and b st player last season. TOTY and got nominated as one of the top players in world.

Far superior that Caicedo.

Rice great last night too.

Our very own Gerard (but superior defensively).

His antics in general are harmless. It's perfectly normal to have a bias towards your own players. I don't mind all 3 City supporters being biased towards their own players but there is a distinction between Rodri having tried to injure Ødegaard last season as well as taking shots at us in the media which don't actually jive with reality since it was City that tried to play for a draw at the Emirates and lost and the draw at the Etihad would still have resulted in a title for us had we beaten Villa.

He looks stupid trying to say our mentality in one game against them cost us the title when we took more points off of them than they took off of us. Where have you seen Ben White do the amount of talking about anyone that Rodri has done about us? Of course we're not going to like him. For all his talent, he's also a dirty player who gets away with more than he should and who chooses to be disrespectful in the media for no reason, at times lying to do so.

Now on to Haaland, we have a guy who tried to injure two of our players and was behaving in a way that was completely unprovoked. You can't find an instance of Ben White trying to cause injury to anyone or childishly throwing a ball at someone with their back turned. Of course we don't like that and of course we don't like one of our players going and hugging him like a big blouse when it's a rivalry. I don't see how anyone could have difficulty understanding the distinction between the behaviors and why people might be annoyed at what Rice did.

Beyond that, let's get to the broader issue that we have a team of players whose club are under investigation with 115 charges, only got off of their previous case on a technicality (and probably some bribery), regularly themselves engage in what can at best be called gamesmanship and directly benefitted from a referee that their owners paid 20k not calling the game evenly essentially accusing US of cheating. For them of all clubs to be moaning about dark arts is pathetic and disgusting so yes, there is a bit of a difference when your banter is not fact based and ignores that your club are not operating within the rules.

You guys hate Rodri/Haaland for stoking the flames of the City-Arsenal rivalry and love Ben White (basically our Rodri) but then take issue with Rice for being nice when that’s what you want our rivals players to be like towards us?

Meme Reaction GIF

I don't have any issue with Rodri at all. I respect him as a player and he truly has mastered the dark arts. I think he is a cvnt on the pitch but I do respect him (that said yes I celebrated his injury).

Haaland on the other hand conducted himself without dignity that last game at the end so imo that's a different story. That was just embarrasing behaviour after snagging a late draw against 10 men. What he did with Arteta looked like a hormonal teenager throwing a tantrum.

Good post, but I can't like posts anymore here.

I would just say that it's not good that Arsenal fans say it was the Villa game or Arsenal's fault City won the title. I think Arsenal would have won all their games in 2024 last season apart from the City away game if they won Villa.

Oliver & Tierney on VAR were the ones who didn't give a penalty for Doku's foul in their 1-1 draw at the end of the game. A penalty is a very likely goal and a win for Liverpool.

So it's very likely Arsenal would have won the title, if they had given this foul which is a clear foul. The ball hits Mac Allister first and then hits Doku's leg, and Doku's studs hit Mac Allister's chest.

The last few pages of this thread is like a novella about the idiocy of a number of people on this forum.

Rice is who he is, and who he always has been - a humble, grounded nice guy, who is still with his childhood sweetheart, spends lots of time with his family, keeps in touch with people in the area he grew up in and treats opponents with respect. The idea that him being nice is an act is batshit crazy - literally his whole life is utterly consistent with what we see.

He may not have that nasty side that all top sides need a bit of, but by the same virtue, his humilty and niceness has probably contributed to him developing new elements to his game every year, and being so selfless on the pitch.

As for abilty, sure he can't distribute like Pirlo, but Pirlo had 2 players to all his running and tackling for him. What he is best at, he is elite at, and he is still pretty good at his weaker areas. He has the technique to be a better deep distributer, but not the mindset, but then most deep distributers can't do half of what Rice is very good at. In the last 15 months he's added goals and become a top drawer corner taker to what he already had, and its likely he will keep improving, injury permitting.

He is one of the best midfielders in the league, and a few undercooked games where he was struggling to get match fit after getting to the Euros final doesn't change that, any more than not being a massive see you next tuesday doesn't mean he isn't an elite ball-winning midfielder.

No kidding.

This guy was absolutely massive for us last year, one of the best midfielders in the PL, and then he has a so-so by his standards first 4 games and a ridiculous red card and people are saying he's a disappointing signing? What?

And I could care less if he's nice. It's fun to have a Ben White but not everyone has to be a Ben White.

It was actually just before the Bolton goal. He has his arms up in a Jesus pose begging for a pass. He was caught out of position because of said begging. @Rasmi notice that not another single player behaves like him out there begging like this. Guy's a weirdo.

Do you lack reading comprehension?
Well, do you have eyes? At no point is Rice "wildly waving his arms for a pass".

Here is the goal. So please enlighten us of your visions. You must smoke some good stuff.

Hahah. It's obvious Rice made the right move to the left free space, and showed that he is free with his hands, just like any player should. Watch Jorginho for example. It's not "begging". He just makes himself bigger to be seen easier.

Lewis-Skelly saw a nice opening, but it was too hard, plus it was Kiwior (who is left-footed) making the run to his right foot. He is no striker, likely wouldn't have handled the ball well or scored.

The right move at 3-0 would have been to rotate the ball to Rice when the defenders are out of position in a corner. But it doesn't matter against Bolton, and shows the forward thinking and vision of Lewis-Skelly.

What's certain, is that Arteta won't blame Rice for this like you do. You have clear bias which you admitted already.
