One of the biggest "technically true but come on now" things I've seen in an article

Both are right tbh. You can be overrated and very good. But Mclean guy wouldn’t say this if Rice was still playing for the Irish and he hates the English

And Allardyce and Nolan wouldnt defend Rice if he played for Ireland.

Rice being moved from the 6 to 8 at the same age as Gerard was. The difference being Rice was more productive with goals and assists than Gerard did in his first season (and several seasons) as number 8.

Rice is arguably the best 6 in the world but I believe Rice should continue as a 8 to fulfill his potential and talent.

Arguably the best 6 in the world who can’t evade the press or make a telling pass. He is not very good 6. I would move him to 8 permanently

Tbf when you cost 105m, if you aren't the best in the world you might as well be the worst.

Yeah unless you are transformative like Virgil it's hard for the more defensive players to justify such a price tag.

Relative to his peers like Enzo and Caicedo + plus hitting his debut season running you'd have to say he's worth that price in the modern market. It's very similar to the WC argument again.

"he is a 6"

"no, no he is a 8"

"he needs Jorginho"

"he is spent".

"he has been carrying Jorginho, that is why he is tired".

Rice is a pickle.

I don't look at him and see a 105 mil player ability wise not even one bit, but relative to his peers like Enzo and Caicedo + plus hitting his debut season running you'd have to say he's worth that price in the modern market.

I think he was transformative as you became a far better defensive side despite losing/missing two of your starting midfielders from the previous season.

I think what's lost here is VVD arrived in the same season as Salah and Robertson. VVD arrive during January and they finished 4th. The following season Allison and Fabinho arrived. VVD basically arrived with a completely new spine of players.

Rice arrived with Havertz, Raya and a player that didn't feature all season.

VVD is obviously class and I'm not taking anything away from him, just think his individual impact is a tad overstated and more of the credit should go to Liverpool's absolutely unreal recruitment during that time. They overhauled the entire spine in 12 months.

Rice is a pickle.

He’s a victim of his own success that he can play both positions to a high standard.

Not many (if any at all), can do that.

He can evade the pr as and make challenging passes.

Contender and nominee for player of season in the league for a reason.

I think we watch these games at the Euro and think, oh we need Rice to do more on the ball.

We have Partey, Jorginho, Ødegaard in next to him with Zinchenko or White inverting . . We can afford to have him play a simple game at DM and not risk turnovers. I actually don't see a big difference between Rice and the likes of Tchouameni on the ball.

For me, Partey-Rice is an elite partnership, but Partey is not reliable. Maybe Arteta can find a replacement.
