Exactly. And it's like people don't pay attention to how City do business. They're not exactly cagey or secretive. We knew about their interest in Gvardiol months ago and here they are making tangible inroads to sign him. The same was true of the Haaland and Grealish transfers. City don't dither and play games in the market. If Rice wanted to be a City player, everyone would know and the deal would be done.

The fact that Gundogan's contract was running out, and there quite literally isn't a better replacement (and potential upgrade) in world football than Bellingham, and Man City didn't even put on their gloves let alone step into the ring for him, is a perfect example of their style of doing business.

West Ham won’t accept our bid until Man City show they can beat it or not.

Plus I don’t feel Man City are not that interested in Rice I mean to spend 100m plus on a player where is city’s ground work for the player ..?

Part of me feels city are just looming around to inflate the rich so we spend out our budget
If that was City’s aim then they would actually be bidding for Rice at this stage.

This is where Rice has to do his bit. If we offer 100 million, which I doubt we will. Then he has to push for a move. I don’t think this will get done until mid july

I agree that its the most likely case, but i also think we've probably pissed City off enough with our pursuit of Arteta a few years back and now Gundogan this summer. I wouldn't put it past them to be this petty.

I think westham successfully forcing us to put big installments. Man city dont need to wait us they'd just go and give westham 2 year 40M installments plus add ons. I think now we'll likely go 3-4 installments 90M plus add ons and that will be good enough for westham

Nobody makes a 100m transfer to be petty. They've just won a treble. They have bigger fish to fry than being upset with Arsenal about Arteta 3 years ago. Nobody at City is fuming about us taking Pep's assistant. 🤣 Also, don't think they'd have sold us Zinchenko and Jesus if there were any hard feelings.

Exactly. It was communicated to them that the player wasn't interested and no bid ever materialized even though a few weeks before the Madrid news broke they were alleged to be favorites for Jude's signature. Pep's ego is not such that he's going to beg someone to join if they're not keen already.

Do you also think city are afraid of being turned down by Rice ..?

Just realized that the Declan Rice thread is officially the most discussed player transfer on AM! Over 100 pages longer than the Alexis Sanchez thread (which included rumors of him joining AND leaving)!

Rice prefers Arsenal that seems to be the bottom line.

A bidding 'war' suits one party only WHU.

It doesn't suit us or even City. Any third bid we make I suggest will be out last if not accepted, be around the figure they find adequate. Sullivan after the ECL final made it clear Rice had played his last game for WH.

That was 100% true before Bosman. There is no way a player can be forced to move to a club he doesn't want to go to - he may not want to move abroad, or move to another city etc. It is a negotiation where the club's interests and the player's have to be fine-tuned. The player is an asset but not a chattel, he is a human being with rights and opinions and these, if reasonable, have to be taken into account. So they could sell him to Chelsea even if he prefers Arsenal (provided they put in a reasonable offer), as that would meet his wishes to stay in London, but they can't force him to go to City if he doesn't want to move to Manchester.

Absolutely right they can keep him for another season but then the value of their "asset" will be nil, which is why they want to sell him this summer.

Ofcourse he can’t be forced to move to a club he doesn’t want to go to.

I’m saying that he cannot force his club to agree to a move to his preferred destination. That is entirely at their discretion, as we saw with Mudryk. Bosman isn’t really relevant as West Ham would happily retain him for another season and still sell for a massive fee if they don’t get an offer they are happy with this summer.

I doubt we need to get into all this anyway as the club, player and agent all seem to have a healthy respect for each other.
