This excerpt from the Guardian article is worth reading. When we're talking about a Xhaka replacement it's not just in terms of his position or skillset. It's about leadership and character. Something we really need to add to our side this summer.

Of course footballing abilities come first and foremost but it's also important to try to sign good personalities, hard working people who are committed to their career and ideally have leadership qualities. We've suffered over the past decade or so in not having as many of these sort of characters as we should have had.

Saka, Saliba, Rice, Ødegaard, these are the sort of characters that would form a great backbone to our side.
Nothing fazes Rice. West Ham’s academy staff had tracked him since he was nine and could not believe their luck when Chelsea let him go. Rice was invited to Chadwell Heath, West Ham’s training ground, and he was the best triallist staff had seen.
Giving him a deal was a no-brainer. Rice had gone through a growth spurt and his physique needed attention, but his ability and attitude stood out. It was immediately apparent he was a leader. He got on with everyone and the coaches could rely on Rice to make sure his teammates behaved well. He was the type of person to make sure staff knew if another boy was struggling emotionally.

“He’s a better person than he is a player – and that’s saying something,” says Mark Noble, a former teammate who is now West Ham’s sporting director. There are times when Noble walks into his son’s bedroom and finds him talking to Rice about football on FaceTime.
Rice has time for everyone. Last month, walking around the pitch after helping West Ham overpower Manchester United at the London Stadium, he spotted a young boy in tears. He responded by hugging the boy and giving him his shirt.
That is how they will remember Rice at West Ham. A leader, a top player and, most importantly, a good person. There are no hard feelings. All the story needs now is a fairytale ending.

You guys are weird to say this is non sense

Actually it's really logic + Steinberg is close to WH

Don't get what is wrong. Rice will come to Arsenal it's so obvious.

MU has Casemiro + wants a striker + Mount + GK + can't spend a lot before the club being selled (Ornstein)

City wants Kovacic and wants to keep Gundogan + Phillips is finally getting fit

Chelsea are not in good terms with Rice camp + wants Caicedo/Lavia or whoever

Bayern are not in England, he seems to not be interested

Pool can't afford him, they need multiple midfielders

Newcastle shouldn't ne a problem

I know the last 10 years were banter but dont forger who we are.

London, CL, money and best project of Europe. We are getting Rice

We already know that he, like most english players, is unwilling to abandon his fish and chips.

This is the main reason I would’ve wanted Xhaka to stay another year. It’s not just about replacing what he brings in that regard, we need to build on it and add more

Why does he have to stop?
All good cycles come to an end. Could get back on the gear of course but considering his form since 2020 unlikely he'll get back to his best.

How many times do you see it happen these days btw, players who by all logic should be entering their physical prime yet unexplicably look dogshit. Reckon it'll be a lot more Allis and fewer Zlatans in the future.

It's always something with Arsenal. Gotta wait for this final, gotta wait for the player to come back from vacation, gotta wait for Edu to take a ****. Teams close **** left and right and we drag it till the last day of the window.
