Do we have an answer

To Englands Left-side problem, believe it or not I think Rooney might answer our problem. Against ManUre he was destroying Brown and the G of the Neville sisters. Then we have a vacancy next to Owen, with Bents coming through and Vassell and Heskey ( short term  ) we'll have something, we can have 4-5-1 even!

1 question..When people say that England don't have a good left winger, does the name Joe Cole come to their mind?!I mean what's wrong in the poor fellow, he may be doing too many tricks and stuff but i do think he is the best option. Why does Sven fail to see this. And ofcourse what about Steve Mcmanaman,is he retired from internation football.I don't care how less he starts for Real,I hate to say this but this scouser does have quality!

quality my foot. he has been rubbish for Mancity lately. Seen the matches myself and he hardly contributed anything even in todays match vs birmingham. If he cant command a first team place at Mancity .. what gives him the england place? Clearly u r assuming without much research on form. he's a has been. nuff said :)

JoeCole? Doesnt start regularly enuff ... lack of first team footie = rusty and lack of experience..

Any other suggestions perhaps. But those two clearly dun fit the bill.

have to disagree with you there..when he does play for the russians, he looks brilliant. And if you are talking about getting experience and being in the england team..1 name..Rooney..what experience did he have before getting the call-up?!

Quite a bit, atleast 15 games and training with the 2nd best manager in EPL (at bringing in good young'uns), he gets plenty of match expierience now, but do we have another reasonable option apart from Joe Cole? Cole is going to let his career down the toilet, you can see

so is Scott Parker.. i doubt he will even get a look in .. with Makelele and Lampard locking down the midfield spots.
what about Alan Thompson of Celtic.. shouldnt he at least be given a game to see how it goes.. i know people will knock the SPL.. but he is worth a try

exactly, but Cole surely had much much more experience then that at West Ham didn't he?so I don't think the "not having enough experience" bit comes into play for Cole.

At that time he had lots of expierience but now not so much, it's gone down the toilet. Why cant you eccept that our LM prospect isnt a ManUre player and he found his strange talent against them

joe cole isn't best on the left imo, he plays better behind the strikers. rooney might be an option but he also is better upfront or behind the strikers. to be honest i think they should play something like this...

James

Neville Terry Campbell ACole

Beckham Gerrard Lampard

Scholes/JCole

Owen Rooney

Just an idea, it would solve the left midfield problem completely because there wouldn't be a left midfield. :p

Too right - the only option is just not to play a left midfielder and basically let Neville and Cole become wingers whilst Beckham and Lampard tuck in. It ain't gonna be pretty, but it'll have to do...

errr...what?!where did United even come into the picture in this?!and yes i can easily accept that England's LM prospect isn't a United player and I don't even want that to happen. The last thing I want is another United player going away for international duty.

Sammer, I can tell you right now how it will work, England will get their collective arses handed to them.

:D ....they sure will (forgot about Trezegol, by the way).

Well, we (Germany) will most likely face the same with Holland & Czechoslovakia.

I can´t wait to see England vs. France though

Sol Campbell won't give Thierry a look in. Pires and Henry can have their joy against Gary Neville and John Terry.

Ashley Cole can do well on the left against Thuram and perhaps Wiltord. He'll show energy. On the right England have nothing as usual - Neville and central Beckham against Lizerazu and Pires.

Vieira will plug Scholes and keep possesion, Zidane will consume Gerrard, and Pires will burn Beckham. Lampard will have alot of emphasis on him to create as he won't have his hands as full as the others. Makalele is a good player to target for England as this will be a Premiership paced game, and he is one who cannot compose himself.

That means England's midfield will be over-run. A strong front two and a solid defence is needed.

Englands hope is Owen vs Desaiily, and Rooney vs Gallas who can outmuscle him - but the service will have to be good to force these situations, maybe a Beckham long ball or Gerrard likewise - which could be the only way England can produce with the little possesion they will have to set up more complex moves. A set piece goal for England perhaps.

France rely on their full backs for width, just as England do. No guesses as to where and how the game may be won or lost there.

France have a better understanding when their full backs bomb on, and better players providing them.

Good point Adam.

I have seen Pires&Henry destroy Wörns (pretty good defender) and Nowotny in November03. Same thing will happen to Mrs. Neville and J.Terry.

France´s midfield dominance is so damn overwhelming, that - I am afraid - Owen and Rooney won´t get many chances to prove their skills against the French defense (which looks damn good with Sagnol and Lizarazu who can still cut it).

There is a chance, if England scores an early goal, but if the French midfield/attack - machine starts to run, I don´t see many players in the english team stopping them.

Sure enough, this might be one of most interesting games of the Euro 2004 in Portugal.

Better players support them, naturally they are Arsenal players.

What also helps France's attack is that quite a lot of the midfield/attack is Arsenal, meaning they play together more often and know eachother better then, lets say, Englands attack.

Its the lethal combination that England has to face the best midfield in combination of the best strike-force (with half of them playing regularly together at Arsenal).

Arsenal Quotes

I often relive those 49 undefeated matches. I do believe in signs to a certain extent, and as I was born in 1949, I sometimes tell myself it was our destiny to lose the 50th. Those 49 matches are etched within me and within each player: it is something fundamental, a triumph born out of passion.
