Eze seems to be a bit of a spare part that Arteta bought to stop Sp**s getting him. I hope he can play a more positive and influential role for us this season. With his work rate issues, I wonder if we play Eze LW with Hincapie at LB as the latter seems more defensive than Califiori. That might work but he's had a season to figure things out so hoping he breaks out for us

This would only make sense if we thought Sp**s were a competitor of us. Sp**s are so far below us it would be the equivalent of us buying a player solely to stop Nottingham Forest getting him.

Though what pushed this deal through is probably Kai's long term injury just as the season was starting.

No idea on Rodgers goal distribution but these goal every x minutes stats can be misleading. Eze didnt actually get a goal every 270 minutes since half most of his goals were against 1 team in 2 matches. That massively changes things
Yeah that's true, it's a bit misleading last season especially. Rogers is very durable and although his output is spread across a really high number of minutes it's also a sign that he's reliable and trusted. Eze tends to be more streaky. But if you look at their underlying stats there are still a lot of similarities. They both try high risk actions frequently sans as a result can be inconsistent.

I still stand by the point that Eze isn't a massive downgrade on Rogers - different, but still capable of magic. There is a chance of this post saying badly in a few hours though...

Kai's injury was certainly said to be the factor but as Eze wasn't a like for like replacement and wasn't given a fixed spot, I'm still unsure what the vision was. And here we are today with him on the bench, again...

I thought he sat today because he was so careless last match. He needs to reflect and start to play like the star he can be.

He was benched because Tzolis has been better than him. One bad half from Tzolis doesnt change that.

I think Eze only has himself to blame as he has to add more intensity both offensively and defensively to his game. If he had that he would be a world class player. A lot can change during the season though, but I'd never bet on him being a long term starter for Arsenal.

People here were understating how damaging his casual giving away of the ball multiple times against villa could've been. The manager obviously paid attention & knew we would get punished today if those were to happen. Plus Tzolis was just great in the 2nd half

He just doesn’t have Tzolis spirit. Tzolis was shocking against Villa, but he was getting stuck in. Eze is just too casual and a lot of times it just comes down to effort. I think he’s gone next summer

I don’t know what you mean that Tzolis has been better than him? Eze is not a left winger.

I was talking about him not subbing in at all in the match given his talent.

Eze helped us win the Premier last year as the starter in the critical matches at the end. He has a high ceiling which is in contrast to many of the players that we have who are “good” players.

What we need is Eze firing.

He has only himself to blame. He had real chance last season with Ode out to claim the spot. His whole thing is just to do enough and never push for more

Yep, losing the ball going 100% is much different than giving it up being casual and careless. Arteta despises the latter. But you would think Eze would know that by now.

Was on Vinai's payroll; misses 4th place trophy 🏆
Eze will be playing alot im bit surprised he didn't came on for Ode could been much more useful on some counters.

Arteta don’t kill Eze’d confidence. I know for a fact Rogers is more of an Arteta player than Eze but alas what’s been done is done.

Eze is a streaky player but we all saw his worth in many games last season. That banging goal against Leverkusen, eating Sp**s alive, goal outside the box against Newcastle etc. In and around the box he is magic. Arteta needs to let him play cam behind the striker and make sure Ødegaard doesn’t get overworked again.

Btw as a LW I don’t think Eze can handle it and the defensive duties it requires in an Arteta side. Support striker is his role in this team and maybe at home against weaker opposition we could play like this

Eze’s problem in this side is clearly the fact he can’t be trusted in a lot of scenarios.

People can blame Arteta for that but ultimately in modern football you can’t carry the lack of intensity he gives us, you’d have to be amongst the top players on the planet to let that happen, and that he is not.

Eze needs to work hard on the training ground and become a more refined footballer, someone who can execute important things with more reliability (these are more simple things but can cost you if you don’t get it right), such as tracking runners properly, preventing brain farts, and not making unnecessarily risky passes or dribbles when they’re not worth the risk vs reward (eg don’t try something risky in his own half or on the halfway line). That chipped pass he made vs Villa for example was a disgrace tbh, no serious manager would be happy with that.

Eze has all the tools to become a great player but he is actually a pretty raw footballer in many aspects. He needs to fix that up so we can start enjoying all of his strengths.

Consistency in decision making and maintaining 100% focus and intensity is a really difficult skill to master. Especially for people who seem to struggle with it.

I'm an online poker pro(plus used to play amateur football too) where this is an absolute top priority skill as well.
I would say there is close to 0% chance Eze is going to change this part of game.
It requires a complete rewiring of his brain.
Far from impossible but sports science, even on the highest level, seems to be still so far behind when it comes to training the mind.

Agreed apart from his intensity, as I think his intensity is so low that its mostly a choice

Let’s be real though. Eze has already made a significant contribution this season, he came on for Tzolis, who was having a stinker, and was heavily involved in a goal that won us an away game at a champions league club.

This isn’t that different to last season where you want more from him in general play, but he constantly pops up with decisive moments, which is pretty invaluable.
