The hate this guy gets whilst other players are praised to no end is mind boggling.

Twice during big Jesus injuries he had to step in for a pretty long stint of games and played more than well enough to keep us in the run for what we were aiming for those seasons (top 4 then title I believe?).

He’s obviously not good enough, but when called upon he contributed to the team enough to keep us ticking and would always work hard also.

Wish him the best of luck.

I think a lot of the hate is more frustration as it seems the last bit of hope we have of another attacker coming in depends on Eddie going. With moves to Marseille, Southampton and Forest not happening it seemed like he was angling to stay. The way Palace has progressed seemingly quickly shows that was his preference. He fell out of favour with Arteta after he had that spell leading our line. To get £30 mill is a good amount. The sooner this is signed and delivered the sooner we can, hopefully, move on.

The jokes on them, as if by magic we are going to make three attacking players disappear and bring in none

I mean, has he done anything noteworthy since?

Just something that stuck with me that in 4 years he has still now grown out of.
Just a couple of hat tricks and a brace against Man U. I never got the hate that Eddie receives. I may admit some bias since I went to uni with his dad so feel a bit of a remote personal connection. So I always looked out for him, hoping he'd fully make it. He's played the third striker role with full dedication scoring a few vital goals along the way. Never was his commitment in any doubt and he's earned us a decent fee so he's been good for us. Wasn't quite a world beater with us but let's see what he can do in another team which might suit him better, who will give him the minutes he craves and might face fewer low blocks. Arteta rated him and gave him many chances for a reason. He played like he was trying to prove a point because he was. Like Iwobi,Ox, Willock and Smith Rowe before him, his time has come.

People view outgoings as hinderances to incomings. So they’re not thinking about the player or the person. They view them, in this case Eddie, as an obstacle that needs to be removed in order to scratch the itch of a new signing.

So that turns into anger and weird, dismissive and sometimes abusive language.

Eddie by all accounts is a decent person, and like you and someone else said, has contributed more than his fair share to help us get to where we are and help us maintain it.

If someone else came in before the end of this window, scored a hattrick in a game where Havertz or Jesus were, injured and scored a winner against United, people would love him.

Every fanbase has its quirks, but one of the ones we have that I really don’t like is that we only respect the players who played well in the previous game. We love Martinelli and are frustrated by Trossard, until Trossard plays well then we love Trossard, but that means we need to hate Martinelli.

Aside from maybe Saka and Saliba, our (online) fanbase has a very transactional relationship to our players. They’re only a few bad games away from being abused. All of them. Ødegaard, Jesus, Martinelli, Havertz, Zinny. All of them. Many don’t truly support the team. They support the results.

Good luck to Eddie. Good player who has done more than his fair share. Hope he gets the love he deserves at Palace.

I have a 2 year old toddler and just realised he'd be perfect on here as his tantrums mirror this place.

'Put pyjamas on son'....'no daddy, no'....cue full on meltdown...😭😭😭

'Ok son, don't have to put pyjamas on...'daddy....I want pyjamas.....!!!!! 😭😭😭

'Ok, well put them on then'....'nnnooooo dadddddyy....'😭😭😭

Arsenal Quotes

Thierry Henry was very quick at analysing everything that was going on and how he needed to react. This intelligence, this capacity to evaluate, understand and question oneself, is also the mark of great players... For everyone, for the fans and for us, he symbolised the golden age of Arsenal.
