This is an extremely unfair statement for 2 reasons:Ever since Edu has joined Arsenal… he has sold only 2 players on profit..Iwobi and Martinez
Arsenal have incurred a loss on every other player sold by Edu
- Edu inherited a disgusting mess left by Raul and by Mislintat- they both bought lots of rubbish players on high salaries. I know Edu did so at the start of his tenure with Cedric and Mari but apart from that has focused on a different profile.
- Covid. I don't think people invested in the Premier League are realising how much Covid effected the market outside of England. Clubs in Italy and Spain who woulda taken our dross like Mari, Bellerin, Torreira for an ok price 5 years ago can no longer do so- the PL was sheltered from the high amount of TV money and revenue they make. It has created an even further bubble there was before where PL sides can buy whoever they want but subsequently really struggle breaking even (or getting any money) for their unwanted players as the salaries are too high. Our wage bill further compounded this.
So Edu has been no saint and the Mavropanos deal was a disgrace and daylight robbery but its not been an easy market to sell unwanted overpaid players.
Its very unfortunate for us as we were attempting to execute a rebuild just as Covid hit, we haven't gotten much money at all for large portions of our bloated squad. Maybe if we tried this rebuild and to trim down at a different time we would have had more money to invest in transfers tbh.
