If we only make one more signing, which would you prefer?

Nunes is obviously just another YouTube players, similar to Bruno there’s a reason no one fancied him from top 4.

Edus white board looks like this at the moment:

Martinelli---------------Jesus-----------------Saka
ESR------------------Nketiah--------------Pepe
Nelson---------------------------------------Marquinhos
------------------------------Ødegaard
-------------------------------Vieira
---------Xhaka-----------------------Partey
---------Lokonga-------------------Elneny
-------------------------------------------AMN

Zinchenko------------------------------------Tomi
Tierney-----------------------------------------Cedric
----------------------------------------------------Bellerin
-------------------Gabriel--------Saliba
-------------------Holding-------White

-------------------------Ramsdale
-------------------------Turner
--------------------------Youth gk

I am curious to see where they want to strengthen. Arteta says he wants more signings, but looking at the above there are limited options.

ESR and Vieira can both play wide and as an 8/10. So why would we sign another wide player or a CM especially with Xhakas status in the line up.

Pepe and Nelson will be hard to shift.

My preference is a 1v1 player. Currently only Saka and Martinelli offer devastation. We need the option of a player who offers it on both flanks. That isn't Pino btw. Neto would be perfect and I really like Doku. If we lose Martinelli or Saka we end up with a playmaker wide. That changes how we play.

The other position is 6. Elneny for Europa and cup games, cool. However the drop off from Partey is too great. He is literally the only player who hasn't got someone able to step into his spot or even push him for it.

Douglas Luiz is currently being benched by Villa for not agreeing a new contract. People question him but I feel like he would go up a level with our Brazillian contingent.

Also, could we be after a LCB? Holding just isn't the right profile.
I love how when Partey receives the ball from deep he picks it up, turns in one move and passes it forwards quickly.

It’s something D.Luiz, Ndidi, most deep midfielders cannot do. They always have to play it back to where it came from, not dynamic enough on the ball.

And usually the players that can do this are horrible passers. Partey is a very unique player. Hard to find a proper alternative

According to his whiteboard last season ESR wasn't a LW. If that's still the same then clearly there's a need for another wide player.

He's truly an unbelievable player. They way he transition from defence to attack so quickly and efficiently while making it look effortlessly is insane.

He is often the unsung hero of the team because people focus on a few misplaced passes that are bound to happen with how progressive he is.

The difference in our performances when he is in the team is astonishing.

A small part of me thinks we should keep AMN until January. Offers a bit of versatility, helps with home grown, could be an okay option to have in the squad if we want to rest someone in an early round FA Cup match or something. We'll need to push on in the back half of the season, keeping our top players fresh for that seems a small price to pay if we were to keep him for the next few months?
Why do people think this is a thing? All it really does is determine how big a squad you can have.

Pretty sure Luiz can do that especially as he can play as an 8. Partey doesn't always check his shoulders and gets caught at least once per game. I'd also add that Luiz is a better tackler.

Why is Edu always putting his wife and family first during summers?

Little piece of filth, its your choice to work at high level in football. And you get paid a lot for it. Most busy months are in the summer. If you cant cancel your wife for 3 months you should be sacked.
As if the pandemic hasn't shown you can effectively work from almost anywhere in the world now... 🙄

Great post, agree and really don't think that Luiz is the answer for that reason, he is very limited. Partey is strong in three areas - ball winning, dribbling under pressure and passing. It's rare to have those attributes along with his general intelligence and athleticism. It's what makes him a special player, even if he misplaces the odd pass and shoots from distance too much.

As much as people don't want to think about CB being an issue, I do believe Big Gab needs a bit of a wake up and Holding ain't it (I'd like Evan N'Dicka here, Gvardiol being a pipe dream).

I can't agree more on the areas I think we need to cover. To get to his ideal 25 man squad I think we will move AMN and Bellerin, I would love to move from Pepe but seems unlikely and although Marquinhos looks like a man, from what I've seen of him he still plays more like a boy. But 4, 6 & 7 could really do upgrading, it's just whether that happens this window or not.

If this squad is able to get CL, then it puts us in a position to better upgrade those spots next summer window, but is that tempting fate and rolling the dice??

I think we may need to move away from 2 players for each position and just think about having forwards, midfielders and defenders. More specifically the profile.

Vieira - RW, LW, RCM, LCM
Tomi - RB, LCB, RCB, LB
White -RB, CB, DM
Zinchenko - LB, LM, LCM
ESR - LW, RCM, LCM, RW
Martinelli - RW, LW
Saka - LW, RW, LCM, RCM

Oddly enough, I think the versatility of those players may be the key to our season.

However adding a versatile CB like Ndicka to cover LB also. A midfielder like Luiz who can cover 8 and 6 and a winger like Neto who can play both flanks, would make the squad incredibly strong. There would be no weakness.

Which is why Matheus Nunes to Wolves irks me a bit, I don't really rate D.Luiz like that but MN was showing those same traits last season. The other 2 100%!!

Let's just hope we are actually actively looking at these areas... 🙏
