Based on the rumors and statements of the credible journalists, I still expect us to have 3 more signings, making it a total of 6.

But if those are gonna be first choice targets, good enough for what the fans would expect and far too late in the window, is a totally different matter.

Some fans gush over Ødegaard and others gush over Maddison, nobody acknowledging that neither are anywhere near as good as the player they're supposed to be replacing. People think about it like "just trying to add competition for ESR", when really it's trying to replace Mesut Özil, albeit 3 years too late.

We bought Özil for 40m in 2013 when he was literally one of the best playmakers in world football, he was absolutely elite. Factor in inflation and 40m in 2013 works out to about 60-70m in 2021. Madders is the exact age Özil was when we bought him. So you're buying same position same age at the same price, but the gulf in quality is enormous. Madders is a good player, but he's not even half the player Özil was in 2013.

Lack of imagination here is pretty shocking too, as if these are the only two AMs in the world. Nkunku and Olmo at Leipzig are as good if not better, and Leipzig have a surplus of AMs. Go bid 40m for one of them. Yacine Adli is just chilling there at Bordeaux who don't have a pot to piss in, they'd accept un demi et un paquet de Gauloises putain. 20 years old with much better stats than ASMR btw.

Truth is whoever we buy will be more expensive and less good than the player we could have gone for but didn't, which is Rodrigo de Paul. 35m euro, he'd have transformed the midfield.

We'd be mugs to bid for Madders now, wait n see if Grealish goes to City, if so go n bid for Bernardo Silva, quality player who's never got the respect he deserves there, bit-part player shunted out to the wing most of the time, give him a fat salary, the no 8 shirt and tell him he's playing midfield second fiddle to no one.

2013 we still had some respect in world football and our name carried some weight. Now we are laughing stock. Also you can’t use 2013 prices and compare them to today. Grealish is about to go for 100 million

The post has merit. Not sure about Bernardo Silva and how he would fit here, but maybe.

I don’t mind loaning the nothing players that have no future here. At least some of their wages will be covered and they won’t bloat our squad.

I do, however, mind that we’ve only signed players that we already had.

White/Saliba
Tavares/Kola
Lokonga/Guendouzi

That’s a lot of funds that could have gone elsewhere..
Football isn't linear and two of those three have no futures here. We've also lost 3 centre backs in 12 months so White isn't just a replacement for Saliba. He is a replacement for Mustafi, Luiz and Sokratis.

Every single source says we are interested in another midfielder and striker. Doing those deals hasn't stopped us doing deals elsewhere. We are like others taking our time.

Spot on RE Nkunku and Olmo.

They have all of Szoboszlai, Samardžić and Forsberg to step in.

I’ve been on the Nkunku train for a few weeks now. He suits our team more than Madders and Ødegaard.

Hopefully you’re right about other targets. But our funds aren’t limitless. White could very well be the marquee signing with less impressive incomings at CM/CAM/CF.

Also we had like 8 CB’s so losing 3 wasn’t a big deal. Only Luiz featured regularly for us out of those three.

Kola is god awful & guendouzi is completely finished here unless Arteta goes.

While the bigger part of our recruitment/sales in the last few seasons has been beyond embarrassing, I think this has been pretty much balanced out by the brilliant work on academy level plus a few great deals we got for minimal or quite little money. We need to accept that we're in a position where we have to get rid of all the bad blood for next to nothing without much regret regardless of what we paid for them or what we wish their value could be. After all we're a club in decline operating in the worst market since forever

Best thing we did last season was to show faith in our talented academy products and making the odd big deal where we had to. We need to follow on that by pushing the upcoming group of worthwhile youngsters to the back up positions over the passengers and making one or two statement signings in any of the three or four positions we are lite in based on market availability. Right now I see CF and AM more opportune this summer than RB or CM

Get him ahead of Elneny in the pecking order.

Arteta would never. Azzez is gonna get 10 minutes next season, Balgoun about 90(in 2-3 games) IF we play lower league team in the League Cup. If we get the likes of Leicester in the first rounds like last season, they play 0.

Doig left out of the Hibs squad. If we can afford to pay Kolasanic off we can afford the 5m to buy him and loan him to Celtic for 2 seasons :)
