Will we sign an attacker before the window closes?

Didn’t blame that partnership though did I? Look back through what was said then come back to me because you clearly did not read what I said properly.

I care about what wins us trophies, you seem to care about paid employees at the club. It’s fine to do that, but I don’t get attached to players who aren’t winning anything.

So Arteta isn’t a paid employee at the club? Why are you attached to him?

That is the clear implication of that post. If you didn't mean it that way, work on your writing skills mate.

No it isn’t, nobody in particular is it fault for us missing out last season. However can things be improved for us to get across the line? Obviously yea, wether that’s a tactical change or new players. Or both…

Watch your language.

Pretty strong consensus amongst Bayern fans that Kimmich cannot be trusted as a defensive midfielder. He is a box to box midfielder so that would mean Rice goes back to 6. Perhaps he has gotten shoved to right back in the Bundesliga because Bayern don't have a 6 good enough to protect him. I am questioning if Kimmich has the physical qualities to play box to box (or literally any position on the pitch) in the Premier League better than any of the players we currently have.
This is what kinda worries me also. We can have a similar setup to Germany with Rice playing B2B like Andrich with Kimmich deeper like Kroos just playing metronome. But he's very protected (Kroos) because Musiala and Wirtz are constantly coming deep and picking up the ball, it's very compact and perfect for guys like Xhaka and Kroos to circulate the ball. But when Martinelli and Saka are very wide it calls on the DLP to be more exposed, more isolated and at least break lines with dribbles or speed in the PL

Here’s what will go down as an unpopular opinion re the desire by some (just @LookingForEric really) who want to see 3 at the back or whatever without big Gabi.

Saliba cannot do that job. He is actually not that good at reading balls coming into forwards ahead of him and making a proactive charge. This is Megalhaes’s superpower. Gabi’s anticipation is elite. We’ve actually seen this play out for France where big Willy has sometimes left the defence exposed when he tried to be proactive and missed the mark.

What Saliba is one of if not the best in the world at is being the last man and mopping up. This is why him and Gabi are such a good partnership. Breaking them up will not improve us.

Not breaking them up just rejigging things. It also isn’t just me, it’s Arteta that started it.

If Calafiori or any other signing means breaking up the Saliba and Gabriel partnership then I’m completely against either transfer.

Absolute nonsense to try a fix the best part of your first XI.
100% agree with what you’re saying, I’m a huge Gabriel fan. However, this is Arteta we’re talking about, the man is a control freak and perfectionist. He’ll likely think we’ll rely less on an elite CB partnership if we have more control and dominance in games. I can definitely see him using the formation @LookingForEric posted if we’re genuinely interested in Kimmich at the expense of Gabriel.

Tbf it wouldn’t surprise me one bit but that sort of move definitely sets us back and I’m sure Gabriel is a bit similar to Xhaka as I really can’t see him sitting around on the bench as he fully knows his worth. There will be a host of top European clubs after him imo.

Last season the club got quite fortunate as losing Xhaka and Gabriel together in the same window would have raised some serious questions. All of that to shoehorn Partey at RB 😭

Arteta realized they were talking to each other in French, so I guess it's time to break up the best CB pairing in the league.

Has to be done.

I mean more logically we are probably looking at -

White - Saliba - Gabriel - Calafiori
——————Kimmich——————
Ødegaard———————Rice
Saka ————Kai————Nico Williams

Something like that.

Yeah but Arteta seemingly learnt from his mistakes. I don’t mind him trying things like that out as long as he recognises if they’re not working and reverts.

By now it should be clear to him and everyone else that partnership is not one of the things we experiment with going forwards.
