💯 It's just a bit disconcerting that it's so hard to see any commonalities between a lot of the different options.

I do think they have a plan, signs are it looks an amateurish one, which they personally think is good enough.

Unfortunately it’s the old notion of giving them rope, either they make good use of this chance or they use that rope and hang themselves.

Have been thinking of whether they have a couple of scenarios planned. Like main target is Ødegaard and if he comes a 4-2-3-1 is on the cards. In that case they see Neves as a Xhaka replacement. Didn't the Neves talk die down a bit when the news about Ødegaard staying at Real broke?

White is probably a player that is thought to fit as RCB in both 4-2-3-1 as well as 3-4-3 - although there aren't really any indications Arteta actually want to go with the latter.

Then you have the supposedly preferred setup of 4-3-3 where someone like Bissouma would make sense. Since this has also gone a bit quiet I'd expect us to get linked to another defensive mid (if they're not eyeing White for that role... 👀)

In a 3-4-3 a right-footed creative LW would make sense and probably be the most important signing imo, together with a good RWB. In 4-3-3 it'd make sense to have a more attacking LCM (I'm assuming Partey will play RCM). Maddison would probably fit both, as well as Aouar.

Then we have the CF links which I don't really know what to think about or how they fit in

But who knows 🤷‍♂️ It looks like it's going to be an interesting summer at least 😄

Still think we’re going for two CAMs with one being able to play on the wing as well.

We should presented Football Manager to Arteta before signing him. He could learn something about.

Seems like there’s Buendia, Grealish, and Aouar who are right footed and can play on the left wing and at CAM. Then there’s Ødegaard and Maddison who are more pure CAMs and can come deep to get the ball if necessary. Just my take on things so far.

This right-footed CAM would also have the ability to play on the right which while Buendia is the most obvious to be able to do that I think Aouar and Grealish could as well (even if this isn’t where they’re currently deployed). I’d be curious to know their actual lists.

El mundo liking us to sabztizer again.

Would take him even if we sign lokonga, Neves and an am like Maddison.

Can rotate through midfield with ease. Would be a massive upgrade going from Xhaka, Elneny, Ceballos, to the other four.

Can be a bit of a passenger at times but tbh he's never been a stellar talent but a very very good player. With his versatitly and experience and the 15m price Sabitzer is a ****ing no brainer. Upgrade to all Arsenal have atm, he's looking worse for Austria than for Leipzig and did you see his assist for that goal in their first game?

I also noticed how he pressed and tackled quite a bit. Got stuck in.

For the price it seems like a very good all rounder to have. He is what people think Elneny could be for us, with the added benefit that, you know, he's an actual footballer and not a backwards pass machine.

This is all that we are actually doing so far. Everything else is just papertalk. Not good enough

Seemed to be playing on the left for Austria as well. Usually plays on the right side or centrally for Leipzig? Looks like a really useful player to have in the squad. I'm a bit torn between him or Neves / Bissouma. Thinks it's unlikely that we sign 3 CMs + an attacking mid as well. Think my ideal options would be Sabitzer or Willock on the rightside and Aouar / ESR rotating on the left of a midfield three.

This is almost exactly how I see it as well and I think it's the most logical explanation for the different rumours. Like you say, it's just speculation until we start pulling the trigger on the signings but Lokonga looks like a Partey back up; Neves is a similar profile to Xhaka and in a 4-3-3 having a defensive specialist like Bissouma could support having two more attack minded midfielders.

The CF links make sense if Laca moves on and in which case Isak or Edouard both seem like strong options.

It's not possible that's all they do, it would be a downgraded midfield from last yr. Arteta and edu may well be stupid but they are not that stupid.

It’s so obvious Tets has watched Moneyball on Netflix prior to this transfer window
