Effect of Brexit on Arsenal FC (and PL of course)

Interesting article in the Telegraph today which discusses this. Apparently informed thinking is that as European players are treated like any other non-British Isles (I use this advisedly as Irish players, from the Republic, would presumably be exempted from this) more African, South American etc players will be bought.

British clubs will no longer be able to sign European players under the age of 18 and this, together with stricter policing of foreign players, will widen the gap between the "Big Six" and the rest.

FIFA are bringing in tighter rules on loans so not sure that owning, or having arrangements with, teams in the EU offer a different route. Also no idea if there are any advantages at all envisaged for Commonwealth players.

Thoughts?

Said this in the Camavinga thread a while back.

Honestly though it’s quite interesting, it’s obviously all up in the air atm but we could be left with the scenario where every non British player will need a work permit before joining seen as there’s a growing chance that freedom of movement will be scrapped.

Whilst that wouldn’t be a problem in itself as the home office is seemingly a lot more relaxed than it used to be in issuing work permits, FIFA currently bars the transfer of under 18’s from country to country unless they’re playing in the European Economic area.

If this were to be the case come October 31st the days of pinching the next Bellerin or Fabregas are over.

Academies will be solely filled with British players which in turn will pump up their value even higher.

It would also give European clubs a massive advantage in recruiting youngsters as if there’s a 16 year old who breaks out in say Spain, clubs in the Premier League wouldn’t be able to buy him until he’s 18 while French, Italian, German and Spanish clubs could all compete for him.

In all honesty I have no idea how the PL and clubs will be affected however, I bet they have already got people in place who do and also know exactly how to get round any scenario they may face.

I bet they still continue to sign or behind the scenes sign European players under 18, nothing will change just how the clubs go about it.

Whatever the impacts, they won’t happen properly until the transition period is over. So we will know about any negative effects before they happen.

Obviously a No Deal scenario is worst scenario because of work permits and even current EU players.

We have to remember that any deal (or no deal) that happens now is only the end of the beginning of Brexit.

Current EU players will not be affected. Not sure No Deal affects it either, the main question is how the FA will seek to take advantage of the new scenario to demand tighter controls.

What a disaster this is ffs.

Haven't seen one single benefit the UK is getting from Brexit, but I suppose this isnt the place.
