Did you start watching games in 2020? Here's dome painful defeats which occurred before then:

UEFA Cup Finals x 2 - thrashed by Chelsea and beaten on penalties by Galatasaray
Champions League Final loss in the last 10 minutes of the game
8-2 obliteration at Manu
6-0 beating at Chelsea
Cup Winners Cup final loss to Valencia on penalties
FA Cup final loss to a Trevor Brooking header (for God's sake)
Several five goal beatings at the hands of Bayern Munich
Losing CL quarter-final to Chelsea the year we should have won it

I could literally name 100 others eligible for consideration.

Same tbh, I have no idea how people are getting their knickers in a twist over losing a cup no one cares about tbh.

Sure its better to win than not win but not a single Arsenal fan at the start of the season said a successful season must include winning the league cup, literally no one cares about it like that. Unless its used as a stick to beat Arteta with, of course.

Btw I'd add Nayim Zaragoza goal for sure, that sucked so much at the time for multiple reasons.

It's no great shock that we couldn't take our chances. But this semi was over after the first leg. Now Nelli could be out for a while and there's no sense in it. Play kids and give them experience. In the end we lost by the same scoreline twice, achieving absolutely nothing by playing our threadbare first XI.

These are all awful, but those teams all gave us trophies around those defeats...this team hasn't given us anything but pain...I don't expect all glory from football anyway so I don't mind pain here and there...it's part of the game really, but give me something to good too lads!

Bar the two Champions League defeats, the defeat to Villa at home last season is worse than all the ones you mentioned as it cost us the Premiership title.

The team that didn't win us the Champions League in 2006, is pretty much the same team that won us the only Unbeaten Premiership ever.

The teams that lost us the Europa League finals in 2000 and 2019, also won us a Double in 2002 and our record FA cup in 2020.

The team that lost our first ever European final v Valencia, also got us there by beating United in one of the best cup finals ever the previous season.

The team that lost the Cup Winners Cup final in 1995, literally won us the same trophy a year before lol.

The teams that got slapped by Chelsea 6-0 and Bayern 10-2 on aggregate just weren't great Arsenal teams, but still won us trophies those seasons.

No football fan should ever expect no pain from the sport, that's madness...but balance that out by giving us some great memories too, those teams did that and should be cut clack for that imo....we shouldn't be afraid to call our team out...we have over 30 major honours to our name, 3rd most by an English team...we have the right to expect something, not asking for everything.

It's now an unlikely Premier League or Champions League or bust this season, to stop a 5 year trophy drought despite strong backing from the board...that's not good enough from the players or management.

Worried we’ve been found out tonight.

Press our CBs and it’s game over.

It was due to the fact that we were behind 2 goals in the first tie. We wanted to score the first goal early, which made Newcastles task easier.

This squad is not good enough for 2 games per week. Most of us knew that we are short of 2-3 players to rotate efficiently. We cannot play same team every game and expect them to physically dominate teams. It's not going to work out.

Hindsight is 20/20 vision and if we played the kids/reserves and got hammered, then Arteta would have been crucified.

But I wish we had. It feels like every season we're like a dog with a bone looking at its reflection in a lake, then losing the bone we have trying to get another.

2-0 down. Squad that is bare bones with no striker, and we play the exact same 11 as Sunday after an intense game, after an intense January and Christmas period.

Maybe a bit of rotation would have helped. I'm worried about our CBs especially. If they go down, might as well pack it in.

I hate to use him as an example but under Ferguson, United had a stat of not playing the same First XI two games in a row for a few years. I think at Arsenal we dont rotate enough, exhaust our players who then get injured.
I agree with this in saying already with a very thin squad we hardly ever rotate too then plus training a day later won't help with so many games a season. I'm also going to say another one of our problems on game day is we won't make subs till at least 75-80 minutes will make our starting 11 even more exhausted. Terrible game management by Arteta.

We were predictably awful once against at this bogey ground. Said it pre match our record there is awful so it's all expected. Tie was lost in the first game anyway.

The cup doesn’t mean much. But losing to Newcastle like that does. There just seems to be a separation of class today. Maybe our players just weren’t at their best. But it’s been a consistent problem that our “goal scorers” can’t find the goal. Frustrating to watch. The football isn’t pretty. Isak made Saliba look foolish more than once today. We played a strong line up and even had an injury to Martinelli. Just a bad day and a bad match, adds to the narrative that this team doesn’t have what it takes, and our squad is even thinner after today’s match. Painful day. Really wish we had a player like Isak.
So you are not just reinforcing my point that we shouldn't play with starters this league when we have such a thin squad and now we get another attacker injured?

And he never uses all his 5 subs because he is always afraid to concede and lose points.

Actually good point, another thing I should have pointed out. Against lower teams if we are winning & looking comfortable, good opportunity to give guys like Tierney, Kiwior, Zinchenko a go to get their form up.

Over the 2 legs we had 70% possession .
24-2 in corners
7-6 shots on target to Newcastle. Both games they just closed of centrally and we had no clue. This team is badly coached in attack against defensive setups. It’s one thing to counter against City. But when we have to lead the game often we struggle

We are the worst big team in Europe creating from the middle and statistically we have the least shots on target

The pitch at St James Park plays a huge role in that. Ball gets stuck under your feet, you're constantly slipping, having to second-guess your every step. Because of this very reason we haven't played well at St James Park since the Wenger days. Very rarely we go there and score more than the odd goal.

It’s probably my biggest annoyance with Tet’s tactics; our non existent play through the middle. EVERYTHING goes through the outside and it makes us so predictable..

It’s why we have gone out of so many cup competitions against inferior team. Even in Europe teams like Villarreal, olympiacos and sporting did a number on us. We were inches from going out to Porto last season. He will never get anywhere until he learns how to coach a team attacking centrally

Arsenal Quotes

Robert Pirès was a fabulous player, world-class, and for a few years, before his injury, he was unquestionably the best left-midfielder in the world by far. He had incredible technique, he was smart, a finisher. He was a killer with a smile, the gentlest man in the world who suddenly drive the ball exactly where it was needed.
