With less than a week left, til English table toppers Arsenal entertain the current Champions League holders, AC Milan at the Emirates Stadium. The butterflies must be in overdrive for all die hard Arsenal fans. The prospect of seeing the official best player in the world, Kaka grace the lush green turf of the Emirates, is no doubt, a mouthwatering prospect. That's without forgetting 4 time European Cup winner, Clarence Seedorf and recent World Cup winners Andrea Pirlo, Alessandro Nesta and 'The Snarler' who is otherwise known as Mr Gennaro Gattuso. Alexandre Pato, the recent addition from Internacional is also an extremely talented youngster. At the mere age of 18, he has already notched up 4 goals in his 6 games for Milan. Which leaves, only the all-time leading scorer in official UEFA competitions, Filippo Inzaghi. The guy who Sir Alex Ferguson most famously said was born in an offside position. This however does not mean that the Gunners, do not boast some stars of there own. Alexander Hleb, Emannuel Adebayor and Cesc Fabregas are just several of many players who have propelled Arsenal to a 5 point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Although this is the 1st time, the two European giants lock horns in the Champions League, many will cast their minds back to the 1st meeting between the two in the Uefa Super Cup final of 94. The Gunners went on to lose the final 2-0 over over the course of two legs after holding the Rossoneri to a 0-0 draw at the late Highbury. Capello was in charge of Milan than and it was no disgrace losing to a team who had just destroyed the so called 'Dream Team' Barcelona 4-0 whilst having a couple of key players sidelined.

Most Gooners will no doubt be excited at the possibility of knocking out the most successful European club of all time. Especially after considering, how well Arsenal have performed in the Premier League this season, whilst taking into account the inconsistent performances Milan have mustered up in Serie A. With Ronaldo being ruled out for 9 months, Arsenals chances of winning have increased significantly. Without the sharpshooting Brazilian, Milan will have to rely even more on the inexperienced Pato and the veteran Inzaghi, to score the goals. However, as we all know league form has no bearing on CL performances and Ronaldo never played a minute for Milan, last season's triumph. You don't have to look any further than Arsenals best ever CL run where we finished a dissapointing 4th in the league, yet we were 15 minutes from being crowned European champions. Milan have reached the final 3 times in the past 5 years. There is no team in Europe who knows more than Milan, on how to win the CL. Bar Alexandre Pato and Emerson, each member of there squad boasts a CL medal. Milan are truly 'the real deal' when it comes to European Cup football.

So what should be learned from this article? Milan are a team who should not be feared but certainly need to be respected. So any talk of Arsenal's young guns over running the aging pensioners of Milan should definitely be forgotten.
