England: Need The Midas Tuch?

ETH spending the entire season looking over his shoulder knowing the board is thirsting for Southgate. Lovely stuff.

Don't exactly want England to do well but it'll be interesting to see who they go for and how that person will set the team up. The talent pool is undeniable so from a pure footballing perspective the job is quite attractive, less so if you include the English press etc.

Any active english manager about will take the role no questions asked, but yeah English press makes it a poison chalice for sure.

Being an English manager your all round media savviness is just as important as the tactical side. Have to be aligned with the current sentiment politically and be really on the button which is something I think Southgate did really well to his credit.

**** off with that image collage.

Bukayo Saka, who was the key player in helping Southgate reach both finals looks more like a part of supporters group up there, hardly visible, while Harry Kane, Foden and few tire-kickers are made to look like key players.

Good riddance and England will soon realize what a colossal waste of time it was to spend the 8 years years with this turnip.

That's mental I had to really squint to see Saka :lol:

One of the things Southgate actually did well was establish a clear pathway for U23 to senior squad so yeah a shame that wasn't emphasised.

The visuals in this current time play a huge role because, in times like this, when people mostly sympathize with Gareth, this image indicates about who were his most important players.

Saka being nowhere close to that is one of the many signals this image shows, while they had time to even prominently show the image of Foden with the dumb blonde hair bleach, all while in reality his last meaningful contribution through a competitive goal for England was in November 2022.

There are probably other important players that are missing, but this treatment of Saka continues.

He got the whole set-up back on track tbf, England were a joke when he took over.
Because he is one of the luckiest managers out there.

It was said many times, but with such low expectations on England, and the media pressure to have an EnGLiShMaN in charge, he had a free ride, which also coincided with a generation of very good players and quality across the formation.

A more competent, a braver manager would have already bring a trophy with the players he had at his disposal. He should have been sacked on the spot after losing to that average Italian side in Wembley.

The Iceland loss is so overstated as well. Yes, it was an absolutely **** result, but it was unlucky at the same time and that was with a much worse team. England were creating chances and had a ton of shots at goal. It was just one of those days. The football they played was so much better.

The performances against Slovenia and Slovakia were infinitely worse than the Iceland game. The England midfield for the Iceland game was Dier, Alli and Rooney. Keep in mind this was far from prime Rooney, he was out of Man Utd after the following season.

Give Hodgson the current crop of players and he outdoes Southgate. I 100% believe that.

For a lot of people, his legacy will be that he got the country caring about the men’s national team again. There was a huge disconnect after the Iceland debacle in 2016.

The way the media are acting like the Southgate era was a success is a bit wild to me. I just see them constantly talk about team bonding, knitting the team together and so on like his main goal was to arrange a successful corporate away day 😂

Not buying into this whole “he brought the team together” nonsense. I think it’s more to do with the shift in football itself, those club rivalries (Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool etc) during the golden generation just aren’t there any more hence why his job has been a lot easier than previous managers.

Southgate has been a great manager for England. Probably one of the best ever on results and getting rid of all the factions within the camp after the Capello and Hodgson ****show.

It is however the right time for a change with the crop of players at the moment. Should be playing a much more expansive attacking game rather than passive defensive football

I'd say the opposite, the expectations are through the roof and the English are very entitled when it comes to football. Gareth was a weird one, because he reached finals you couldn't really complain but it was never convincing.

He's had detractors for years but his saving grace was the main pundits are his mates.

A more competent, a braver manager would have already bring a trophy with the players he had at his disposal. He should have been sacked on the spot after losing to that average Italian side in Wembley.

Whole heartedly agree with this though, embarrassment of riches but he's simply not good.

Fantastic news to wake up to. Now conduct the interviews for his replacement in a medical facility so you can be sure the next guy has a backbone.

Sterling isn't anywhere to be seen & he was seen as a vital Southgate player & a significant 'voice' on the topic of racism.

*I'm not sure there is anything in this. They obviously just took images from various goal celebrations & neither Saka or Sterling were in them.

I agree tho that he has been a big player for Southgate & could have been more prominent, but it's only a collage designed by some computer nerd at the FA.

Arsenal Quotes

Ian Wright was the incredible striker for whom those around him sometimes found hard to control especially the opponents. He was an extrovert, hyperactive, and had endured an extremely hard life. His playing style was instinctive, and he had that killer instinct, a player like no other.
