Tbh I think international coaches should be from the same country. Always been weird to me that the rule only applies to the players, the whole point of the thing is you're sending your nation's best.

I can name you many countries where the head coach has nothing to do with the country and they were simply the best they could get.

Some due to lacking the infrastructure and expertise, some are just countries where football isn't the main sport and are more open to foreign expertise. The English shouldn't be so quick to narrow their recruitment pool anyways they could do with the help.

Winning the Swedish Cup with Østersund was probably a bigger shock than winning the World Cup with England would ever be, but I take your point.

If they are hellbent on a domestic solution, I don't think there much to choose from. Howe will likely not leave Newcastle.

Not about the best for me, the whole point of international football is it's nation vs. nation and I think that should extend to staff as well. All the stuff you mentioned applies to players as well when you think about it.

It's also one of the only ways managers from many African and Asian nations could get a chance to manage players against top opposition and maybe make a name for themselves, could literally be a proper career starter for those guys like it is for many players who pop off at international tournaments.

Could get tricky with tense geopolitical relationships like the Balkans, former Soviet states and newly formed countries in Africa etc.
